Off Topic: US Open Tennis

Used to watch a lot of pro tennis. Still recall Ilie Nastase’s wife lamenting at the U.S. Open one year, “He is fluent in five languages, why does he have to curse in English?”

Anyway, I watched a little last night and noticed no line judges, or at least it looked that way. How long has pro tennis been without line judges?

Back in the day it was fun to watch the center line judge just barely get out of the way of an errant serve hurling toward them at 100 mph. They would barely move a muscle, just lean ever so slightly at the last second.

Anchor Down

I’m currently in Richmond, taking in some Ted Lasso scenery. My buddy and I are in the Ted Lasso pub and I am wearing some VU gear. I’m halfway through a pint and I hear “anchor down!” from a female patron.

I have lived in the UK now for a year and this is was the first time someone recognized VU.

No real reason for this post aside from the randomness. And yes, all my VU gear is still the Star V.

Tickets and Attendance

My understanding is that Vandy sold out all season tickets. I was thinking of buying season tickets again but waited too long and there were none.

There are only about 28,000 seats and perhaps most or at least a significant number of season tickets were purchased for one game by UGA, Bama, Texas, and UT. So they will be selling their unused seats on the internet. The upshot of this is that the VU athletic department does not have any control over the sale of those tickets and little ability to have special ticket promotions for Alcorn State and Ball State.

For the rest of the games, ticket prices for VU fans without season tickets will be high.
