running backs

Just watching the game, I felt our running backs did OK. Taking out Pavia's stats, the running backs had somewhere around 20 carries for around 80 yards I believe. Not great I guess but maybe good enough to provide some balance to the offense and Pavia's rushing attempts. What do some of you think? This question comes from me reading here a number of times that "Vandy has no running backs".

Props to the DJ on Saturday

Seriously. Every time the Hokie fans gained momentum and started chants, the DJ jumped on his job and drowned them out with the new sound system. Which was amazing. I assume they are adding more to the south end zone.

The first time we commented as a joke about the DJs timing, but the DJ consistently did it every time the Hokies started a full stadium chant. Nice move.

Good story on DeRickey

From the Hustler

Watching the tape...officially

These ACC officials...sheesh

The 3 personal fouls so far..

The first on Taylor, he didn't even hit the man and the player in front of him hit him inbounds and let it go...falling down...very bad call..

The third on Patterson for roughing the passer was bad too. He hit him as he let the ball go. Didn't hit him high or low, just wrapped him up....

There were other flag football calls...couldn't really tell without the tape..

Any chance we pick up any new fans this football season?

The truth is that most families have their fall sports schedules planned out so that if Vandy football wasn't already part of their schedule, then it's probably too late for the 2024 season. With that said, you'd have to think people that are clearly huge VU fans who post hear and watch the games from their homes MIGHT consider coming in person to watch VU this season.

Looking at @WoodyVU66 @papahick4VU @wayne4vu (come to more games, brother), @og706 and countless other fans who we would love to see at the Dud.

Any of y'all thinking about coming now? Any out of town Alumni wanting to make a trip?

South Carolina will be an affordable ticket but Bama, Texas and UTjr will be rough. Come anyway, Diego needs some fans there (as does the rest of the team)!

Eli Stowers

I'm very high on Stowers. Big time athlete at hybrid TE / WR. Knows Beck system. This play was designed and executed absolutely beautifully. Bc "poor mans" version of players is being thrown around, I'm going to say he could be our poor man's Brock Bowers do it all type player. Fry me if you want, but I think sky is the limit for Stowers this season.

Vindication for everyone who has banged the table to incorporate the triple option into Vandy’s offense. Not that most want to go full military academy, but being competent at that style of play is a massive plus in an era of most high schools not even running it. Hard to prepare for. Harder to defend once it’s a live game.

Also, for a losing coach presser, he gave a very good one

#1 Favorite Game of the Week

My 10 favorite games of the weekend

1. Vanderbilt 34, Virginia Tech 27. I almost listed "Vanderbilt is going to be the most annoying 4-8 team ever" among the overreactions above. We'll see what kind of staying power the Commodores have this season now that there's film on what they want to do, but everything about their offseason changes -- most notably, bringing in former New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill and a few of his favorite Aggies -- screamed "This team's going to be a giant pain in the butt at the beginning of the season." They certainly were in this game, bolting to a 17-3 lead before the Hokies' offense could wake up.

Vanderbilt comes up with a stop to win OT thriller
Vanderbilt stops Virginia Tech on fourth-and-11 to win 34-27 in overtime.

The Commodores' finish was even more impressive than their start. Tech seemingly seized the game with a 17-0 run, and the Dores looked dead on their feet. But crafty old Diego Pavia led a 70-yard touchdown drive, tied the game with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Sedrick Alexander, then scored the eventual game winner in overtime. With QB Kyron Drones suddenly suffering from cramps, Tech couldn't respond, and Vandy had its first nonconference win over a power-conference team since 2017

Diego Pavia - In the Mix for the _ _ _ _ _ _ _

4. Diego Pavia, QB Vanderbilt

Yeah, seriously - if the Heisman voting was done RIGHT NOW after Week One, how is Pavia not on the ballot somewhere? In the shocking victory over Virginia Tech, the New Mexico State transfer completed 12-of-16 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns without a pick, and he ran 26 times for 104 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

Post game

After holding tickets for 30 years and watching on TV for the last 12 not sure I have ever seen a gut it out come back like that! I was there for the first time in 12 years. Did the O or D play perfect? No. They played well enough to win. I don’t do win predictions. They may win 5-7 or finish the year at 1. I just know I saw a well coached team, really great game plans, and players fighting till death.
