Off topic What horrible managing by Sullivan

First, he lets a guy who pitched 4 innings yesterday come back out and pitch today. The guy did okay in the 8th, but then in the top of the ninth. with the Gators up 3, first guy lines out, next two guys with line drive singles, he comes out to the mound, everyone and their dog figures he's making a change, but no he leaves the guy out there. Very next pitch is a 3 run homer. Just horrible decision making by Sullivan. Tie game heading to the bottom of the 9th.

Football Couple of Commodores make Phil Steele's All-SEC team

Per Vanderbilt Athletics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Phil Steele has named two members of Vanderbilt's defense preseason All-SEC. CJ Taylor was named third-team safety while linebacker Langston Patterson was selected to the fourth team.

Taylor was named a fourth-team All-SEC selection by Steele last fall after making 55 tackles, 7.5 for loss and two interceptions. He was fourth among SEC linebackers with a Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 80.2 and will transition to safety this season.

The McMinnville, Tennessee, native had interceptions against Georgia and Florida last season, while contributing 10 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the effort at Wake Forest.

Patterson led the Commodores in tackles last season, including a team-high in tackles against Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn and Ole Miss. Against the Rebels, he recorded his first career sack, forced a fumble and had an interception while making nine tackles to earn a spot on the Pro Football Focus Defensive Team of the Week.

The Nashville native has played in all but one game over his first two seasons with Vandy. He's made 79 career tackles, 8.0 for loss, along with one sack and one interception.

Off topic Bat Shaving and Summer Ball

With the “adjustments” (cough cough) many major programs are currently making to create trampoline bats, one thing I am curious about is how the average and home run totals compare between the summer leagues and the NCAA Season.

Generally, in the Cape Cod League a good hitter’s average will dip between 100 and 150 points because of the quality of the pitching (no mid-week starters, everyone is a top end guy at their schools). With some of the shenanigans going on with this bats this year, that number could go up even more.

That’s not to say that summer leagues are immune from this stuff too. In 2012, I overheard a funny conversation in the press box where Paul Galop, the CCBL Commissioner at the time, admitted to multiple Cape team execs that the baseballs that summer were corked and juiced. There were lots of league wide offensive records that year when Judge and Schwarber were both on the Cape.

Recruiting/NIL question

My cousin is close friends with Jared Curtis' grandmother. He's the QB from Nashville Christian, 2026 class who is a verbal commit to UGA. My cousin called a couple weeks ago to tell me he has received enough money to pay off his mother's house, and buy her and himself both new vehicles. She didnt know how much over that he had received. She doesnt keep up with NIL and such and was shocked. I wasnt.

So I guess he received this from a collective and may or may not have signed something with them. But even if he has, it is not "supposed" to be legally binding or tied to a school, correct? So, collectives could get burned if the kid goes somewhere else or if the coach decides he doesnt want him? Is that right? Also, I still have concerns about giving kids/parents these amounts of money at 16 or 17. If underage, who claims the income? Just some random questions/thoughts.

On basketball content

If you couldn't tell by the Hoggard story, I was on the phone with Mark Byington for about 20 minutes last night for that story as well as one on Xavier Joyner, who has an exceptional story that you will all want to hear. There will be a few basketball stories from those calls and another one coming up that will be staggered over the next few weeks.

Their first day of summer ball was today and supposedly went well.
