VandyBoys--Remember When?

There has been much posted here about the state of college baseball today. I know this could apply to many teams, but I follow Vandy so---remember when we would go to Vandy games and see a hit and run; a double steal; a suicide bunt; a hitter giving himself up by hitting to the right side to move the runner from second to third; the unbelievably daring baserunning of Enrique; a bunt with runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. That is what I have always enjoyed about Vanderbilt baseball. Coach Corbin taught his players all these things and more and used them every game. So much fun to watch. Oh, where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

How many SEC Football Stadiums have you watched Vandy play in?

1) Vandy
2) UTjr (I’m 1-0 there)
3) UK (I’m 1-0 there)
4) South Carolina (I’m 1-0 there)
5) Arkansas (I’m 1-0 there)
6) Bama (0-1)
7) Auburn (0-1)
8) Ole Miss (0-2)
9) Miss St (0-1)

A) I don’t care to calculate the record in games I’ve attended at the Indian Burial Ground but it would probably be enough to make me consider jumping off of the closest bridge.

B) The fact that I have a 4-5 road record in the SEC as a VU fan has to be the most remarkable think I’ve accomplished in my life. What are the odds mathematically?

C) I have no idea when the next time I’ll get to go to another SEC game on the road but I would like to LSU next.

How many have y’all been to?

That's a grim looking 2024-25 football schedule

Seeing this was a harsh reminder that this is going to be a tough tough slog for CCL in year 4. No surprise, but with all the personnel changes, coaching changes, new plays/packages, my expectations that were already low have actually gone down. I know in theory we've upgraded at several spots, taken a new NIL approach, upgraded coordinators - but in my 20+ experience, huge offensive question marks at every important position (QB, WR, RB, OL) usually does not end well for Vandy. Defense might be better overall because it would honestly be tough to suck worse, but goodness, that SEC schedule this year is BRUTAL. 2-4 wins maybe?

Football Couple of Commodores make Phil Steele's All-SEC team

Per Vanderbilt Athletics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Phil Steele has named two members of Vanderbilt's defense preseason All-SEC. CJ Taylor was named third-team safety while linebacker Langston Patterson was selected to the fourth team.

Taylor was named a fourth-team All-SEC selection by Steele last fall after making 55 tackles, 7.5 for loss and two interceptions. He was fourth among SEC linebackers with a Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 80.2 and will transition to safety this season.

The McMinnville, Tennessee, native had interceptions against Georgia and Florida last season, while contributing 10 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the effort at Wake Forest.

Patterson led the Commodores in tackles last season, including a team-high in tackles against Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn and Ole Miss. Against the Rebels, he recorded his first career sack, forced a fumble and had an interception while making nine tackles to earn a spot on the Pro Football Focus Defensive Team of the Week.

The Nashville native has played in all but one game over his first two seasons with Vandy. He's made 79 career tackles, 8.0 for loss, along with one sack and one interception.

Recruiting/NIL question

My cousin is close friends with Jared Curtis' grandmother. He's the QB from Nashville Christian, 2026 class who is a verbal commit to UGA. My cousin called a couple weeks ago to tell me he has received enough money to pay off his mother's house, and buy her and himself both new vehicles. She didnt know how much over that he had received. She doesnt keep up with NIL and such and was shocked. I wasnt.

So I guess he received this from a collective and may or may not have signed something with them. But even if he has, it is not "supposed" to be legally binding or tied to a school, correct? So, collectives could get burned if the kid goes somewhere else or if the coach decides he doesnt want him? Is that right? Also, I still have concerns about giving kids/parents these amounts of money at 16 or 17. If underage, who claims the income? Just some random questions/thoughts.
