Baseball lineup as of right now

Most of the guys we’ve got on the roster have a lot of flexibility, so I think it’s better to simply list the hitters I want in the lineup rather than going position by position.
The 7 guys I want somewhere in the lineup are Kozeal, Davis, Holcomb, Austin, Maldonado, Kropf, and Mendez.

With those 7 guys the only obvious need left positionally is a catcher, and then the last spot could be any other position on the field.

Barczi could catch but he hasn’t caught a full game and isn’t a sure thing at the plate. The other spot could be a Diaz or Polk if they come back too. I think that still need another impact bat from the portal whether that guy is at catcher or another spot, and then that other spot just needs to be a decent hitter, whether that’s Polk, or a freshman next year, or another decent transfer.

Would love to know where everyone’s head is at

Off topic New to the board, diehard Vandy fan

Hey everybody,

I just joined the board this morning. I’m a diehard Vandy fan and proud 2013 alum. As a student, I covered basketball, football, and baseball for the Hustler. I also covered the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summer of 2012 and kept track of the Vandy Boys on the Cape that summer. I’m a member of the Athletics Committee for the Boston Vanderbilt Alumni Chapter and pretty active on Vandy Twitter. To stay up to date, I listen to the VandySports podcast, the Dore Report, and the Plaster show. Glad to be on the board, especially since my home city’s sports talk radio couldn’t care less about college sports. Hoping that 2024-2025 will be a better year for VU than the dumpster fire we witnessed in 2023-2024

Off topic Bat Shaving and Summer Ball

With the “adjustments” (cough cough) many major programs are currently making to create trampoline bats, one thing I am curious about is how the average and home run totals compare between the summer leagues and the NCAA Season.

Generally, in the Cape Cod League a good hitter’s average will dip between 100 and 150 points because of the quality of the pitching (no mid-week starters, everyone is a top end guy at their schools). With some of the shenanigans going on with this bats this year, that number could go up even more.

That’s not to say that summer leagues are immune from this stuff too. In 2012, I overheard a funny conversation in the press box where Paul Galop, the CCBL Commissioner at the time, admitted to multiple Cape team execs that the baseballs that summer were corked and juiced. There were lots of league wide offensive records that year when Judge and Schwarber were both on the Cape.

Vanderbilt Football Field

For what it is worth, my sister in law (who lives in Nashville) shared that she met the guy who has the contract to put turf down. Apparently, he has had (the opportunity) to reinstall it SEVERAL times during this process because the city, in more than one occasion, has made Vandy tear out and redo new sewer work (because the job done did not meet city approval).

MLB Draft

Bryce Cunningham to the Pirates @ 47 (2nd Round)

Carter Holton projected 3rd Round

The number of SEC players projected to be taken across the first two rounds is "ridiculous".

New Basketball contributor: Brandon Bigsby

Super excited to welcome our new basketball contributor Brandon Bigsby to the team.

Brandon is a good friend of mine, fellow sports media major at Lipscomb and is someone Alaina and I in particular have a lot of belief in. Here's a guy (Cris Collinsworth voice) that loves the game and grew up around this program. I'm sure his enthusiasm will bleed over into his coverage, although I've got a lot of confidence that he'll be objective. Brandon is one of the guys that I talk with consistently about the men's program. He knows it better than most. We're not exactly sure what his role will be, but Alaina, Billy and I want him to be a focal point of our basketball coverage as we aim to expand it. He'll be doing stories and podcasts with us on both programs. We want him on camera as much as possible, he's excellent there.

Brandon ultimately wants to be a play-by-play guy. He's done a good bit of basketball play-by-play and color on Lipscomb's radio station, he's done Lipscomb Academy football, he's done E-sports. He's also written a bit for the Lipscomb paper.

You guys will really enjoy the addition, as will we. Brandon and I are filming a podcast today. Looking to add a weekly basketball pod with him, Billy and I like we're doing for football with Will while also getting him on with Alaina whenever she wants to do one.

Here's some of his work:
