regardless of outcome. (1) Last week, you lost to a team that is significantly better. Whether the game should have been more competitive is open for debate. (2) Now you're down 2 TDs on the road to a team you should be to-some-degree better than. Are you going to (anchor down) and prove that you are the better team? And i thought they showed real "grit & determination". And gave us a nice glimpse of what is possible going forward.
The TD pass from Swann to Davis on 4th down after he eluded the sack was the game-changing play IMO. The energy just completely evacuated the NIU sideline and fan base. They crumbled after that. I’ve seen it happen to us at home dozens of times. Nice to see us do it to someone else in their house.
but that play didn’t just change the game. It may have changed the entire season. And the entire program for that matter. I don’t think we can overestimate the fallout that would have resulted from losing this game in the manner in which it seemed to be happening at that point. Just read the game thread. A 2-10 season would have set us back years. As it stands now we have demonstrated progress from last year and a have a base of talented young players who promise a bright future.
we deserve to get the breaks sometimes. But I also believe that the breaks are more likely to go your way when you have the right preparation, process, and mindset. So I think this win has got to be extremely gratifying to the team and to Lea in particular. I can’t wait for his press conference on Tuesday.
I say "strong performance" because I still don't think we have real talent. Swann, Shepard, Orji yes. But beyond that we aren't an SEC team yet. So I'm proud of how this team performed today. I'm glad they aren't nearly as panicky as some of their fan base. Gritty game, hope this becomes Lea's signature, grit.
The True Freshman Report: Week 2 standouts and early season leaders
Vanderbilt’s AJ Swann could have a chance to become the first true freshman at a Power 5 program to replace a veteran starter this season. The 6-3, 200-pound four-star recruit from Canton, Ga., entered Saturday’s loss to Wake Forest with the Commodores trailing 35-10 and went 8 of 11 for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-25 loss to the top-25 ranked Demon Deacons.

Lanier is expected to be back at Georgia Tech for their game against Ole Miss today. He was also at the Jackets season-opener against Clemson. Lanier is also getting more attention throughout his senior season as Minnesota just extended an offer.
Some positives and some negatives to start the season, but 3-1 is a fantastic outcome. Beating wake was always going to be tough.
Now let’s see if the boys can get through the upcoming storm of games.
