Football I have to admit...

...that I think Vandy would have a decent chance of beating Mizzou IF the game was not the week after UGA. Playing Bama, Ole Miss, & UGA in a four-week period is just brutal. The bye week is after Bama, and that might help some. However, I wish it was after UGA. An extra week of rest after the Bulldogs would have been huge before facing Mizzou.

Football Will Sheppard

Can we give it up to Will Sheppard for a minute?

- Yes, he's played one more game than most schools, but
- He leads the country in receiving TDs with 7 (2 ahead of five other players)
- He was simply unstoppable on Saturday and no one could guard him.
- Will is 15th in the country in yards with 313.
- 54th in yards per game at 78.2.

- On another note, please pull Will off of punt return.

Football Impressed

I know much talk has been about Mike and AJ as it should, but I just want to give a shout-out to Ken Seals. He EASILY could have pouted, quit etc when it was announced he was 3rd string. I have watched him closely on the side lines and he has been nothing but engaged and a great teammate.

I saw him today at the VU soccer game and he was sitting with AJ Swann and other FB players cheering on the soccer team. I saw on social media he is participating in the baseball HR derby with VU Baseball and The Nashville Predators.

I don’t know what his plans are but I hope he can graduate from VU in 3 years and transfer somewhere and have two years of eligibility left.

I know things haven’t worked out the way he would have liked, but he certainly carries himself well and I just wanted to give him a shout-out out and say thank you for representing Vanderbilt they way you have these last 3 years. Well done!

Football Mike and swann

I feel like they both bring different things . Personally I wished they didn’t bench Mike so soon but at this point they are no different. You can say “teams will fill the box “ but when teams double Will what will Swann do ? Granted I know he’s the future and I’m loving what I’m seeing .. I wish personally wish he’d spread the ball more .. that’ll make the offense more dangerous.. I’d love to hit the TEs more ..

Football Will players have buyouts like coaches do ?

Coaches sign five year deals and the schools negotiate buyouts to protect themselves if the coach is successful and wants to bolt after two seasons. Seems only fair that after investing time, effort, and money in players that the players should compensate the school if they leave. Will this become part of the new culture of college football free agency ?

Football You have 8 opportunities to win 1 game…

There are from my count 3 very winnable games left on the schedule: Mizzou, SCe, and Florida.

tenn, ole miss, and Kentucky aren’t World bearers but are tougher than the other 3 mentioned progrums.

Bama and uga: just no injuries. If that happens then that’s a win.

win one more and call it a success. Keep up the crootin and keep building.

Football Mike Wright leg injury

Wright had a brace on his left leg and was noticeably limping. Did the tv or radio broadcast mention this? It didn’t seem be be discussed here. IMO there was no way he could have played today even though he was dressed.

Chris opined that Wright was benched for performance and attitude. I just don’t think we would have seen him today even if he had led us to a win over WF

I guess we’ll find out for sure on Tuesday.

Football Swann stats so far this year

Yeah, I understand the competition gets a lot tougher the next three games.

But, against Wake Forest (top 25 team) and NIU (favorite to win their conference two years in a row), this kid has been outstanding.

In those two games, he is 26-39 for 401 yards and 6 TD's with zero turnovers. That is basically flawless football right there! He also had 3 runs for 14 yards yesterday.

The stats are great, BUT, this kid has something even better. Poise. Moxy. He side stepped a defensive end in his face to throw for a first down like it was nothing. He spun around a LB and a DE in his face to throw a 30 yard dart to Davis (great catch by Davis btw) in the end zone for a TD on 4th down like it was nothing. Those are senior type plays, not true freshman in his first start (on the road, no less) type plays.

Now, we have #2 Alabama, #20 Ole Miss, and #1 Georgia next. He may look human against this murderers row stretch of the schedule (who wouldn't?), but I really like this kid going forward.

Who knows how his career is going to play out, but I'm thinking we are going to enjoy having this kid being our QB!
