Are we ready to be the hunted and not the hunter ?

We shall see and over the history of the program the answer has been no except a handful of seasons. Will not bore you with all the games in the past when we were 3-0,4-0 or even 5-0 or seasons we had a big win only to lay an egg the next week. This seasons egg already is the GA State still turns my stomach. I still see this game against UK as VU being an underdog. Hope the team is ready to bring their A GAME ! This is a very good UK team. Anchor Down !

Coach Lea

I was there as a witness. The greatest night of my sports life. It was and still is just an amazing time to be a Vanderbilt fan.

I just got the chance to see the video of Coach Lea getting rushed by his family. That’s a family that loves their husband and dad. A proud family. A family that felt what we ALL felt. The icing on it all was to see his young son break down crying. Crying because he was happy for the win and the excitement but also crying because he got to see his dad be awesome. That boy knows his dad has taken some shit from a lot of us all while working his ass off. A proud son looking at his hero. That is the best video of it all.

I’ve dished out the crap towards Lea but I know he is a good man and a GREAT father. Congrats Coach you more than deserve it!

Vandy United?

I’d be curious to know which improvements Vandy has announced publicly, vs what things have tangible work being done, vs what things haven’t been started (at least in terms of construction)

Obviously the basketball center/NEZ is completed (or nearly completed as I think the basketball center is due to open soon ahead of the upcoming season), and the SEZ is coming along. But I don’t think there’s been any progress of the baseball field upgrades, McGugin?, new indoor football facility? I’m sure there are others.

On Review

Rewatching the game with some spare time today to kill. I’ll add to this thread throughout the day but it’s unbelievable how much Kill/Beck out schemed Alabama. (Who made very little adjustments from drive 1 to the final drive). The quick and strong concept by far had its best day of the season. There were several plays where the quick side tackle is pulling to lead block and the TE is making an amazing block on the DE/Edge player who almost looks stunned by what is happening. Several new wrinkles that went unnoticed Saturday. I would say over the first 3 drive Bama stayed in the same defense (cover 1 with a nickel robber and 1 deep safety). They had a linebacker man coverage on the rb, and nobody spying Pavia. Which is 100% criminal coaching malpractice! They pretty much relied solely on their DL to set the edge and gap integrity. Spoiler alert, Pavia absolutely had their heads spinning with all the eye candy and Houdini ball handling. They did send the slot db on a couple blitzes that worked to blow up the mesh. But 3 drives in that is about the only adjustment I’ve seen Bama make.

Like I said I’ll add to this thread throughout the day as I find time to watch the replay.

A very important thing happened tonight…

And I’m not just talking about beating #1 Alabama.

But there were likely thousands of (potential) Vanderbilt fans created tonight. Much needed in this fan base - they must capitalize on this moment. There should be 100 Pavia jerseys in every junior high school in the area. They should donate 10k tickets for Ball State to every youth league in Middle TN.

Keep winning. Keep investing. Keep building the fan base back.

QB commit Michael Mitchell

I would love to hear some thoughts on him. I know Sean is gone. Mitchell is a2026 qb from San Francisco. I can’t ever remember is getting a player from there. He is listed at 5’11” 175. Hopefully he is actually that tall and can put on some weight. Anyway his sophomore film on hudl is incredible. Dude can sling it. I would love to get people’s thoughts.

Thieves ripped watch off Dodgers pitcher Buehler's arm, cops say

ESPN News Services

LOS ANGELES -- Thieves surrounded Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler last month outside a horse racing track in a Los Angeles suburb and ripped an expensive watch off his arm, police said Tuesday.

Buehler was not threatened during the mugging Sept. 28 at the Santa Anita Park horse racing track in Arcadia, police said. They are investigating two similar episodes the same day that officials said were by organized groups who steal high-end watches in large crowds during events.

Buehler was at the track that day with his wife, McKenzie, and a teammate, starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, to attend the inaugural California Crown races. Buehler, a Lexington, Kentucky, native, is a major horse racing fan.

While walking from the paddock to his seat, Buehler was "unknowingly the victim of a snatch and grab robbery of his watch," his agency, Excel Sports Management, said in a statement.

"We are grateful Walker and McKenzie were not harmed and Walker is focused on the playoffs," the agency said.

The Dodgers declined to comment and referred media to the Arcadia police.

The theft came days after Buehler's last regular-season game and a week before the Dodgers began their National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Buehler is slated to start Game 3 of the series against the Padres on Tuesday night in San Diego.

He is not comparable to Johnny Football.

Pavia is not comparable to Manziel. Pavia is better because Pavia doesn't have Mike Evans and the 6 other 4 and 5 star receivers to throw to. He plays within the system and knows it so well he can call the plays himself. Manziel threw up a lot of jump balls to a bunch of tall receivers. Hell, he threw two picks in the game against Vanderbilt. If they voted the Heisman on team merits and not stats, Pavia might be leading the clubhouse. Manziel could escape danger, Pavia runs through it.

Let's go 1-0 this week and hopefully they start comparing others to Pavia when this thing is done.

Some more thoughts (Mostly Lea)

It’s oxymoronic but I still think Lea isn’t fit to be a head coach AND I give him all the credit and mostly think the direction of this program is on track (minus maybe recruiting), so I don’t know. I guess I’m wrong about the first half of that. Ultimately everything is his responsibility so while it’s Pavia (like I said a couple weeks ago that kid is such a gamer) Kill and Beck (who 💯 I was wrong about they are making a difference) Lea made it happen. So let’s see I had him as my 4th worst Vandy coach since 1990 behind Mason, Watson, Robbie Caldwell but now he’s third best to me behind Franklin and Dinardo. We fans are so fickle. To be consistent If like to add that I still think Candace should still be fired.

Also final note which I am sure others have mentioned, I just haven’t tead the comments yet —the key to this game was TOP/plays run. So people made that happen of course, but we give Alabama 2-3 extra possessions and it would have been a different outcome. But it wasn’t. This is a dangerous team on offense.

Pavia picks up National Player of the Week honors (press release)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia has continued to see the accolades roll in this week after engineering a 40-35 victory over No. 1 Alabama.

Pavia has now been selected national player of the week by both the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards. The graduate student was already named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the win over the Tide.

The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native was 16-for-20 passing for 252 yards and two touchdowns against the Crimson Tide. Both passing touchdowns extended Vandy’s lead to two scores in the second half, including one to Junior Sherrill on a 4th-and-1 late in the third quarter. He added 56 yards on 20 carries to finish with 308 yards of total offense. His 218.8 pass efficiency rating was his highest of the season. He’s thrown for at least two touchdowns in four of five games this season.

The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best all-around college football player by the Maxwell Football Club. The award dates back to 1937 and is awarded at The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards in December.

The Davey O'Brien Award is also presented at The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards and given to the nation's top quarterback.

Pavia and the Commodores return to action Saturday at Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

Joe Kapp & Diego Pavia

Pavia was named Latino Player of the Week. I know Pavia fashions himself after Johnny Manziel, but as an OG, let me throw out another name. Joe Kapp. The first Latino qb to take a team to the Superbowl Kapp epitomized toughness. He lacked physical skills, but he was one tough SOB. I loved watching him play. His leadership inspired the Vikings. Sound like anyone we know? Kapp died in 23', but I wonder if he's looking down on Pavia, saying that's my guy; Kapp might even be sprinkling a little angel dust his way.

What say the older guys on the site?
