Mount Carmel QB Jack Elliot runs for 198 yards, 4 TDs in win over St. Ignatius

Watching Mount Carmel quarterback Jack Elliott play, two noticeable aspects of his game are his arm and his heart.
Elliot, a senior from Orland Park, can throw the ball with the best of them; he’s also tough, durable and not afraid to accept a punishing hit from an opposing defender.
In a 45-24 CCL/ESCC Blue victory over St. Ignatius on Sept. 20, he showed he can be proficient with his legs as well, rushing for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
Among those were scores that covered 45, 54 and 71 yards in a game in which the Caravan trailed heading into the fourth quarter.
The feisty Wolfpack (2-2, 0-1) led 24-21 after three quarters before Mount Carmel seized the momentum of the game and scored 24 unanswered fourth-quarter points.
After a bad snap went out of the end zone on a St. Ignatius punt attempt, drawing the Caravan to within one point, Mount Carmel’s Quentin Burrell returned the ensuing free kick 64 yards for a touchdown.
Elliott found Burrell for the 2-point conversion pass, giving the host Caravan a 31-24 margin with 11 minutes to play.
Elliott, a Vanderbilt commit, closed out his evening with his final TD, a 54-yard run with 8:34 to play.
On the season, Elliott has 351 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.
Mount Carmel’s Madden Wilson scored his first touchdown of the season on a 20-yard run off right tackle for the game’s final tally with 6:47 remaining.
Defensively, the Caravan’s Matthew Mucha had 11 tackles), Roman Igwebuike had eight tackles and Le’Javier Payne nabbed his third interception of the season.

How to stop our offense

Would be to do the opposite of what ‘Bama did most game, which was to give their ends (or edges if you prefer) read responsibility.

We are an option and misdirection team and it’s working beautifully. There’s several ways to beat that, though. No offense is perfect or every team would run that offense.

The way I’d approach it would be to crash gaps and 100% have the edges crash the QB. I know this as “50 fire double four” but UK they will have different terminology but it’s the same thing. The edges on snap have zero responsibility but to crash Pavia. This puts more pressure on the inside linebackers, who have to first read the middle gaps (which are also being crashed by the DTS) but now have contain responsibility too. BUT, when you take people out of read you defeat misdirection and those edges 💯 on Pavia should make him have to give the ball up more, and sooner.

I didn’t see Alabama do this once. They assumed all game long they were so much more athletic they didn’t have to — which ideally is true ideally your talent means you can be less risky.

I’m curious if UK will adapt. And then of course do we adapt to their adapting. That’s always what fascinates me so much about FB, which team is two steps tragically ahead of the other. We were ahead of ‘Bama all game long.

UK defense

I never do this but got on the UK site and apparently their DC has a very good record on shutting down option/Mobil QB's and the fans have made some really good points about how he is good at ( cross reads ) and making the QB think the end has crashed only to have the LB stunt out . They also have noticed whichever side of the field DP goes and the most likely type of pass, he likes to throw. I know this is no news flash because any staffs job is to notice tendencies.

I like to think our offense if executed correctly is hard to stop and the coaches have a plan B . I do worry about a stacked box and if we are good enough to break a long run without getting DP banged up or if they double team Stowers who could step up ? I see miss direction and more deep balls coming into play for us this game. Anchor Down !

SEC QB Rankings: week 7

Pavia is in the top 5 in the country in a couple of stats, and is 1 of only 4 QB's in the country who has yet to throw an interception. Wow.

These are really neat and very customizable. Plus they are much cheaper than a goal post or a jersey!!

Paying Alabama 100k for the Field Rush is a Joke

The SEC should make these fines payable to a charity not to the opposing school. Like Bama needs 100k for their "trouble" ! The 100k paid by Vanderbilt and the 250k paid by Arkansas need to go to the flood victims across the South from the hurricane. Cannot believe UT and Bama have not done that already. Would be a great PR move.

Longwell gets a National Player of the Week award (press release)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt linebacker Bryan Longwell has been named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week for his performance in Vandy's win over top-ranked Alabama.

Longwell led the Commodores with eight tackles in the victory. He added a tackle for loss against the Tide, his fifth-straight game with a stop behind the line of scrimmage. This season, Longwell has led the team in tackles in both Southeastern Conference games.

The Nashville native anchored a defense that held Alabama under 100 yards in rushing and to a season-low point total.

Longwell was also named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Defensive Player of the Week for his contributions to the historic win.

The Commodores return to action Saturday at Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network and 94.9 The Fan.
