Visiting fans

Every Vanderbilt fan knows that any win is fantastic. It might be a non-conference win with about 200 visiting fans ( and honestly sometimes not many more Vandy fans). But nothing is better than winning when the stadium is 70 percent visiting fans. In the first half, the VT fans around me kept saying--"What are we doing?" In the 2nd half they perked up but at the end, I got the satisfaction of walking out a winner while VT fans are saying---"How could we lose to Vanderbilt?" What a great feeling for a Vandy fan.

Marketing Department Pro Tip

I'd have Pavia voicing ads in Spanish on Spanish radio in Nashville starting this week. I'd also have him record 30-45 second hits for Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter. The offer is for $10 tickets that includes a characterized Diego Pavia "Los Commodores" t-shirt starting Saturday night.

We're going to sell out multiple times this year - use the money to promote Vandy football brand via Pavia. I'd spend $100,000 a week on socials, radio, and maybe a billboard or two around town (though I hate billboards) until the end of the year promoting Vandy football using Pavia. Or until we crash and burn.

It's a total shot in the dark. I have no idea if it would work. But Pavia is clearly a character we havent had in decades (if ever). Other than James Franklin. He's incredibly marketable. Need to strike while the iron is hot.

I'd also have him on Nashville sports radio paid spots all week with a similar offer in English. And non paid interviews. He should push ticket offers.

And I'd even throw in 5-$1,000 giveaway winners every week at every game. Maybe for students or tickets bought through the promotion.

video of on field celebration

I just watched replay of overtime and about a million videos of the celebration on the field after the 4th down incompletion, including a couple of great ones of CCL with assistant coaches. And the thought struck me that I glad I could see all this instead of fans "storming" the field and ruining these great moments for players, coaches and fans.

So much meat still on the bone

Yesterday was no fluke. We had 2 dropped INT’s that would’ve put us on or near the 50, several dropped balls in the backfield that would have made positive yardage, several times we had broken coverage that lead to big plays or easy scores for VT. DP Missed at least 3 times open receivers that would have gone for big yardage or scores. Excited to think all that I mentioned and we still beat a very good VT team and in fact I was not even worried about OT because VT defense was out of gas and not VU. Proud Dore !

Couple of end of game observations

I watched the replay last night, then again today. I noticed a couple of things I thought were "interesting":

-I bet if you asked Brock Taylor he would tell you that he thought he made the kick at the end of regulation. Both of his two prior FGs hooked a few feet. The last one stayed dead straight and missed by about 6 inches right. He had to be playing for the draw and it just stayed straight. Maybe more unlucky than anything else for him.

-On the final play of OT, after the Vandy TO, HCCL Lea took both Patterson and Longwell out of the game and replaced them with Nick Rinaldi and a Safety (I think it was Carter who came in). Pretty gutsy move to take 2 of your best defenders off the field for the play and it obviously worked. I also noted that Christian James was in for that final series. He clearly wanted an experienced guy in the interior DL in that situation.

Off topic Quincy Skinner

Is a man. Dude has some guns...

He was huge today.

And to those who said we don't have running backs.....eat that crow.....suck it all down.

Very proud of CCL and all the people he was able to attract to get this win and some momentum. I know they are just an ACC team.....but the hype.

The lines looked a 100% better and stronger.
