Myself and Justin had the opportunity to hang out at the Elite 3 workouts this morning at East Nashville. They feature a lot of talented in-state prospects including Vanderbilt 2018 wide receiver target Justin Oden out Spring Hill. Elite 3 has a 7-on-7 team that will compete in different tournaments throughout the region, their first will be in Knoxville in three weeks.

Here are some takeaways from today's workouts...

Offense:
- Vanderbilt 2018 WR target Justin Oden was a beast today, really showing off his quickness, athleticism, and 6-foot-3 frame. Nobody could really cover him throughout the entire day.

- Smyrna 2017 running back Casey Perkins really showed of his array of skills - a quick, shifty runner that displayed his ability to be a threat in the passing game. Showed off a good set of hands as well. Easy to see why Perkins' recruiting process is really picking up, recently earning offers from Miami (Oh.), WKU, and East Carolina.

- A young running back to keep an eye is Spring Hill 2018 prospect Dontae Smith. He rushed for over 1,100 yards this past season and made some really nice downfield catches today during 7-on-7's.

Other offensive standouts:
- Drake Smith, 2017 QB, Riverside
- Kendrell Scurry, 2019 WR, Independence
- Dayron Johnson, 2019 ATH, Springfield

Defense:
- Marshall County 2017 LB Cain McWilliams was an impressive performer today during workouts. The 6-foot-2, 227-pound prospect showed off great top-end speed in coverage running side-by-side with every running back he covered throughout the day. McWilliams just picked up an offer from Jackson State, but I have a feeling his recruiting process will begin to pick up.

- Another LB that had a good day was Deylon Williams out of Smyrna. He looks really good physically coming off an injury that kept him out all of last season. He showed off good footwork in drills and more than held his own in pass coverage the entire day, going up against his teammate Casey Perkins most of the day.

- PJP2 2017 cornerback Chris Bell is a cornerback that really stands out physically at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. He really showed of his skills during agility drills - very quick and has very good footwork. Bell did struggle a bit during 1-on-1's and 7-on-7's going up against Justin Oden, but he's a prospect that can only get better and could possibly get some looks in the camp circuit this spring and summer.

We'll have interviews throughout the week from the workouts today, so look out for that on VandySports.com.
