Play calling

Is it just me, or has the offensive play calling progressively regressed since the Hawaii game? Did we run the option even once yesterday? Maybe one reverse? Did we set up anything at all, then execute it?

Also, along the same lines as a comment I made yesterday, it doesn’t do us much good to design an offense around a running quarterback if you aren’t going to turn him loose to run. Wright doesn’t need to be looking to slide - he needs to be looking to blaze. That’s why we have back up QB’s. Mike has a unique skill - but the coaches (and/or Mike) have to be willing to use it without reservation.

I just don’t think he’s the answer. .

Yes. it’s very early in the season, but he has no arm and everybody knows it. I hope he makes me eat my words for the rest of the Wake game, but We HAVE to have balance to generate any offensive success. Practicing and moving the football all spring and fall against our defenders was no predictor against good competition . Wake ‘s D is a weak semblance of what we’re gonna see the rest of the year.

Just A Thought

How about a moratorium on name calling and trolling folks in the WR. Seems to me VS contributors are shrinking in numbers. Only Chris can verify that observation. But we need all the folks we can get in the WR to have a vibrant community.

Now if folks want to verbally go at it why not take it to the CS. Many of us have duked it out in there verbally and it doesn't turn off new folks to the site. So having said that my new mantra will be "Take it to the CS" when members get p****. Similar works in bars when patrons are told to take it outside. Just a thought.

This year and a big next year

I've long thought we'd win 3 this year with 4 being possible, albeit 4 unlikely, and nothing has changed. I'd bet 3 and I'm fine with that. Because Mason left us absolutely nothing and decimated this program off the planet.

That said, year 3 Lea is going to need 4-5 wins or it's going to get really bummed out around here, yet again. I mean, there will be habitual "this is the year" preseason hype like there is every single year, but think of a scenario where we go 2 wins, 3 wins and 3 wins. And that after a disastrous Mason era and you are just look at nothing but a stall.

I don't think this year ever looked pretty for us. I've long thought next years is the big one, if we can get the kind o- line to compliment Swann (I am now in the camp of play him simply because he is the future, not because I think he can win more games than Wright this year) and we ideally capitalize on some talent Lea has brought in.

Tony Kemp

Tony with a nice response here. Some may not know that Joe Kelly is the son of former Vandy WR Joe Kelly. Tony is such a great representative of Vanderbilt. I hope he is employed here in some capacity some day.
