Chris Lee and Luke Wyatt unwind Vanderbilt's horrible night in a season-ending, 56-0 loss to Tennessee, and what that loss means going forward. Also, some things Vanderbilt needs to do to build back a season ticket/fan base and a peek ahead to Vanderbilt's 2023 football schedule and an early over-under win total.

FB Recruiting 2025 TE Ryan Ghea picks up offer during Vanderbilt visit

The Milton (Ga.) prospect is already well on his way to being a national recruit in the 2025 class, Vanderbilt has made a good early impression

VCU Fan Forum Thread - Tonight's Game

With some standard "dissing" of VU . . ."the school" and the basketball team as well as a few basketball related items:

"My brother and nephew went to Tennessee. They like to scoff at the Vandy people that tend to pontificate about being an Ivy League school in the SEC. There is lots of academics hurting recruiting talk from them  Remind you of anyone?"

"First only the Ivy League is the Ivy League. Second, Vandy is a heck of a good academic institution. Third, Tennessee has their share of scholars as well.

"Their rivalry reminds me of UNC and Duke. Except Tennessee whips their butt in just about everything but academics and even that's close."

No one should ever, ever, use "higher academic standards" as an excuse for failure unless they have the proof ... by that I mean standardized test scores for the athletes involved, not for general student body. If the numbers were on the table, I would guess that the Vandy and UT test scores would be nearly identical among the eight players with most minutes. Vandy may have a brighter third string."

"Key matchup to watch:

Brandon John's vs Liam Robbins.

Liam is 7' Big 5th yr 10 transfer from Minnesota who started the season splitting time with Vanderbilt's other big, Quentin Milora-Brown.

Robbins has been playing progressively better tha Brown taking away his PT. This is no surprise he was an All Big 10 selection once.

Over the last 4 games Robbins has gone 26-36 (72.2%) from the field, 15.5 ppg. 5.8 rpg, 3.5 bpg. In his first last game vs Fresno state, he had 20 pts, 7 rebounds and 8 blocks in 33 minutes."

Looking back at SEC preseason national predictions

I always enjoy looking back, and seeing how accurate preseason predictions were. This year, they were VERY inaccurate.

Now, I used the preseason rankings from Lindys magazine, post season rankings from college football news, so there is some slight differences in the final BCS rankings and the college football news rankings, but the latter went 1-131, so I used them.

Alabama- 1st, finished 6th
Arkansas- 13th, finished 45th
Auburn- 46th, finished 57th
Florida- 31st, finished 28th
Georgia- 3rd, finished 1st
Kentucky- 24th, finished 25th
LSU- 29th, finished 12th
Ole Miss- 17th, finished 30th
Miss. St.- 38th, finished 26th
Mizzou- 57th, finished 44th
South Carolina- 45th, finished 15th
UTjr- 26th, finished 7th ☹️
Texas A&M- 5th, finished 52nd
Vanderbilt- 87th, finished 60th

Other notable huge misses:

Oklahoma State- 9th, finished 47th
Oklahoma- 10th, finished 43rd
Baylor- 12th, finished 39th
Miami- 14th, finished 62nd
Southern Cal- 22nd, finished 4th
TCU- 44th, finished 3rd

I just find it fun to look back at. Miami and Texas A&M with the biggest falls, TCU with the biggest rise.

If you've made it this far, I hope you enjoyed it.

FB Recruiting Oxford (Ala.) 2025 QB Mason Mims recaps Vanderbilt visit

Oxford (Ala.) 2025 quarterback Mason Mims, an intriguing out-of-state recruit, stopped by West End this past weekend to visit with the Commodores, catching Vanderbilt's regular season finale against in-state rival Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound gunslinger out of Oxford, Alabama spoke with VandySportsDotCom about his experience at Vanderbilt and detailed his favorite moments from the gameday visit.

"It was awesome all the way around," Mims said. "My favorite moment was when the players walked past and going through the tunnel."

Mims said that while the Commodores haven't been recruiting him heavily, Vanderbilt offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch has followed him online, adding that he hasn't connected with the coaching staff yet.

"Coach Lynch has followed me for some time but they haven't been recruiting me heavily," Mims said. "I haven't met him but I like the scheme and what they're doing with the offense."

During the rivalry game between Vanderbilt and Tennessee, Mims said that the Commodores' receiving core were impressive and stood out to him.

Mims said that playing for Oxford has played a huge role in his recruitment as his coaching staff have helped him to develop and grow as a player. He added that his coaches have helped him to attack defenses. Mims also said that his coaches have helped him a lot with his recruitment.

"They have developed me a lot about defense and how to attack them," Mims said. "They have helped me in recruitment a lot."

Vanderbilt isn't the only school interest in Mims as he's collected offers from Pitt and Troy so far in his recruitment.

Basketball Jerry Stackhouse and Liam Robbins Media availability takeaways 11/29

Jerry Stackhouse:
- he's still learning about roles, what the freshmen are able to do
- wanted to build a schedule that challenged them early, thinks they've gotten that.
- Stack thinks VCU is "really good defensivley," says the key to beating them is to take care of the ball and make VCU defend in the half court. Thinks Vandy may be better equipped this year than last year because their primary scorers aren't their ballhandlers.
-Trey Thomas practiced "a little bit" yesterday. Seeing him this week is a "possibility."
-Paul Lewis is still "a ways away" because of the flu and the concussion.
-Lewis is penciled in as the backup point guard.
- Thinks the key for Tyrin Lawrence is staying focused, they will continue to put the ball in his hands and want him to be a playmaker. Stackhouse was also "really proud" of how Lawrence defended.
-Stackhouse on the 2023 class:
"I think we have a great signing class"
"They're just great kids, that's first and foremost for us"
On Isaiah West:
"At that point guard spot he gives us a different dynamic, he's a combo guard, he's a scorer, he can get in the paint, he can make shots, but I think his toughness and his approach is really what stood out to me."
On JaQualon Roberts:
"I don't know if we've recruited an athlete like him"
On Carter Lang:
"Another smart guy who can play on the post with his back to the basket as well as make plays for other people and fits right into what we do."

Liam Robbins:
-They were determined not to leave Anaheim 0-2
-Thinks Vandy is finding an offensive rhythm
-Said VCU is talented, tough, and will try to force turnovers.
-Thinks Vandy has to be careful not to get sped up by VCU
-It's very valuable that anyone can contribute on any given night
- Robbins is really excited about the freshman class:
"We have a lot of talent, especially our younger guys...Colin Smith, Malik Dia, Lee Dort, Noah Shelby, and the others, they can all step up and knock down a lot of shots. They're gonna be a fun group to watch and we're relying on them come SEC play"

Vandy will play VCU tomorrow night at 7:00 est or 6:00 central.
