Basketball Stackhouse's contact, etc.

For what it's worth--and let me be clear, these are things I am hearing from multiple places, and not me reporting--I am far from convinced that Jerry Stackhouse's job, beyond the remainder of this season, is as secure as the contract extension would publicly suggest, and certainly not as much as I would have thought 24 hours ago before I started digging a bit.

And knowing how Vanderbilt operates and the strange stuff I've seen happen over the years, I don't want to say too much and have to walk it back later.

I'll just leave it at that today. I will have Luke Wyatt on the podcast tomorrow and we'll discuss this more.

I'm also trying to work a source to find out more solid details on the contract. Again, what I have heard is he has 4-6 years and I believe it's closer to the latter. That's hard to do at Vanderbilt so no promises here but I'll continue making the effort.

Hearing we have one silent commit that people will be very pleased with.

Add this commit and a strong finish and should be able to stack two strong classes back to back.

One thing I don’t know is how the staff knows how many they will end up taking because you don’t really know who will transfer out of your program after the season.

Basketball PODCAST: Grambling problem

Vanderbilt suffered a bad home loss to Grambling, the first time the school has ever lost to a SWAC opponent. What does that mean for the future of coach Jerry Stackhouse? Luke Wyatt tells what he's hearing, takes mailbag questions and more.

FB Recruiting Monday notes: December 12th

Let's get started, shall we...

- Benson was one of two uncommitted targets (Jordon Harris the other) to visit West End this past weekend. Unfortunately, he hasn't responded to our inquiries as of this morning. Two programs to watch here are Kansas State and Iowa. The question will be, does Benson want to be part of a class that will have three running backs or go to a school where there is a bit less of a log jam. We'll see what transpires.

- Louie has stamped a commitment date of December 21st with his final three schools being Vanderbilt, North Carolina, and West Virginia. He just got done with December officials to Vandy and North Carolina. West Virginia is a school he was previously committed to, so the Mountaineers feel kind of like a throw-in team to be honest. With the NC visit this past weekend, that is the third time he's visited the Tar Heels since the summer, so take that FWIW.

- Turns out, Harris did make it Vanderbilt for his official visit over the weekend. He is one to keep an eye, especially since Ka'Marreon Pimpton is making his round of visits (LSU this past weekend, Texas next). Looks like Harris is a backup plan if Pimpton ultimately flips elsewhere. For now, Harris is scheduled to take an official with Missouri this weekend.

- Lanier took his official to Vandy this past weekend. I asked him what stood out about his trip, he responded, "the people, there was a lot of energy in the room. Everybody was such family." Vanderbilt will still have to work to keep Lanier in the fold though, he told me a visit to Minnesota will happen.

- Hoping to get an update from Cruz at some point today. He was at Vanderbilt the first weekend in December and took an OV with Georgia Tech this past weekend. Will be interesting to see where he stands with the Yellow Jackets now that Brent Key is officially in place as the head coach. It will be interesting to see what Vandy does at the defensive end spot moving towards signing day, do they bring in Ezra Odinjor for a visit this weekend? Odinjor was originally scheduled to visit Vandy the first weekend of December, but it was cancelled. Vanderbilt also hosted Taje McCoy for an official the first weekend of the month, the three-star DE was at Colorado for an official this past weekend.

- As @JustinAngel noted in his update with Sherrill earlier this week. Keep an eye on UAB here with Trent Dilfer now the head coach there. Will be interesting to see if he takes an official visit with UAB, which he mentioned was a possibility.

***Also of note, there was mention of Father Ryan product Kamryn Baah-Slay in another thread this week. He apparently tweeted an offer from Vanderbilt on his Instagram account, however, we have confirmed that is a greyshirt offer.

@JustinAngel has mentioned Alex Washington previously, Vandy pulled the trigger on an offer today. He just visited Boston College this past weekend. Iowa and Duke are also involved.

Washington told us he’ll be at Vandy for an official this upcoming weekend. He’ll be a mid-year enrollee.

Basketball - An Understated Mention

For what it's worth . . . "questions" is being polite .

Three teams with questions

i

Vanderbilt Commodores: Jerry Stackhouse's team actually rebounded pretty well from a home loss to Southern Miss in the second game of the season, but the Commodores fell to visiting Grambling State on Friday, and they are now just 5-5 through 10 games.

Baseball Seat Upgrades Online

Has anyone used the new baseball ticket upgrade option yet? For those who aren't baseball ticket holders, those who have season tickets are assigned a specific time to go online with an interactive depiction of The Hawk, see available seats and, I presume, swap to better seats or add to one's existing account. The times are assigned according to NCC points so mine isn't until 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday and there is a countdown on my screen until my assigned time. It looks like a good thing and is evidence that ticketing is offering new features.

Mea culpa

Wow, I’m shocked to hear that I was this far off and just invented the CSL consultant story in my head as I thought I remembered reading it and talking/texting with other fans abt it. But I trust Chris as a reporter and the last thing I ever wanted to do was make his job more difficult.

I have nothing against Candice personally but just think Vandy athletics has been in the doldrums for most of my 47 years and think change will only come with a new leader who’s worked at a successful program (ie not Vanderbilt excepting baseball).
