NSD Signee Nuggets

Went out with one of my best friends last night for a round before the holidays kick off, and despite the sheer randomness of the location, ran into a good chunk of the football coaching staff.

Said hi to a key member of the recruiting staff that I recognized, and he shared the following as we caught up:

1. Said he’s most excited overall about Dante Kelly and Martel Hight. He sounded like they stole someone else’s candy, and seemed confident both would flash quickly.
2. Most surprisingly, he went kind of blank when I asked about Kenric Lanier—eventually replying that the staff always viewed Lanier as the 4th-best of the 4 wideout signees, saying “he was always just a bonus.” Could be revisionist history after getting spurned (like a lot of us fans do), but he pretty sounded unfazed about losing him.
3. Said all 3 RB’s are better than anyone currently on the roster.
4. Said it will take the staff another class or two like this to get Vandy where it wants to be.

Heard a similar SEC coaching source speculate recently that Pimpton must have received at least $200K from LSU, based on the current NIL market. Insanity.

FB Recruiting AJ Blazek breaks down incoming OL signees

I had to start with the offensive line because without offensive lineman then none of that other stuff matters. Blazek goes into great detail on each signee and also talks some returnees. Hope you enjoy!

Joint Team Prayer at Mid Court

Best thing about the completely boring game yesterday was the two teams getting together and having a joint prayer post game. Well done and classy. Not sure who instigated it but great to see. Ballsy at a woke place like Vanderbilt.

In other news, a lawsuit will surely be filed this afternoon on behalf of those offended.

Merry Christmas everyone.

FB Recruiting Nick Lezynski breaks down Vanderbilt's incoming LB signees

I caught with Vanderbilt linebacker coach Nick Lezynski. Good insight into the linebacker signees.

Curt Casali is back with Cincinnati!

Hoops - playing time bizarro world

I could post a very long diatribe about the state of this program, but consider these two simple facts about yesterday’s game. Robbins and Lawrence are clearly two of our best five players. I don’t know how anyone could argue otherwise. Robbins played 15 minutes and had an astounding 14 points and 9 boards in that limited time. Tyrin played 17 minutes - one minute more than Ansong. Neither guy was in foul trouble.

Reality of Vandy Football Program

It is my option,
Clark Lea is the perfect coach for Vanderbilt football considering the reality under which he has to operate. This University is not going sell out its basic principles. He and his staff must identify the best prospects they can land and do a great job of developing them into competitive SEC athletes.
Let’s face the facts, we are not going to sign or keep 5* or high 4* prospects in recruiting. We must focus on lower 4* and 3* players who we believe are under rated and can be developed into competitive SEC players. I believe this is the focus of Coach Lea’s staff.
In reality, the upper potential of this program is to schedule non conference games you can win and compete with the SEC programs which you have a chance to beat. The ultimate realistic goals are to have winning seasons and earn bowl bids. We are not going to be competing for a spot in the national championship series. If that occurred once in a lifetime, it would be unbelievable.

Folks,

Apologies for the interruption. I am visiting one last time to share my Instagram post. Please feel free to like and share or disagree with me. Either is fine. You can ignore the earlier posts, laugh at them, or enjoy them. They have nothing to do with politics, Vanderbilt, or current events. I won’t be back on, so I won’t be able read the responses, if any.

The most Myles Stute game yet?

Look, I’ve been on record as really not liking Myles Stute at all but tonight may have been his perfect performance….

11 points in the first 5 minutes. I’m think Stute is breaking out and leading the team. LFG. Then, disappears the entire rest of the game until we run 2 straight sets for him with the game on the line and he throws up bricks (wide open too, perfect plays). Then, after nearly costing us the game by not being able to convert the wide open looks, he takes another bite of the apple and turns it over the next trip down. 3 straight plays for Stute, all 3 end up as empty trips.

He has played well this year but I still contend that he doesn’t do enough to help the team win for him to be a net positive on a good basketball team.

In an ideal world, he’d play 20 minutes a game as a spot up shooter and not a minute more. In our situation, he’s counted on to be quite a bit more than that. We’re 4-4 because he’s either our best player or 2nd best player. Not good at all.

With all of that said, the kid is giving much better effort this year. He’s rebounding and showing more fight in 2022, so my angst is becoming less and less warranted. My post is just more frustration than anything else.

Why is Myles Stute our leading scorer In Stackhouse’s 4th year?
