i'm not on Team Kyle, but this 1 NCAA in 13 seasons is the most message board thing i've read in...well....days.

Smith is in his fifth year at Wazzu playing in his first NCAA tourney. Prior to Wazzu he coached at Uni San Francisco. USF just ended a 24 year NCAA tourney drought two seasons ago. Before USF he was at Columbia. They haven't danced since I was in nappies and before most of this board was born. They're also both from leagues that get one bid only.

If he'd spent 13 seasons at major level schools (in conferences that get multiple bids per season), 1 from 13 would be particularly damning. It would also likely mean he wasn't currently coaching at that level. 1 from 5 is worth questioning, but he did improve dramatically over where they were in his first season.

I know we're all on the "I hate anyone not named Bucky, Mack or Kelsey" Train, but this from 1 from 13 shriek is ridiculous.

Looking like a serious contender for VU job.

Heard Matt McCall on CBS sports radio this morning and he didn't mention Trilly specifically but did say he heard that he was coming with Mack to Vandy and that he has never talked to Mack.

3HL (Brent Daughterty / Ron Slay / Dawn Davenport) reported today that Vanderbilt has already conducted interviews for the open MBB job with these candidates:

• Chris Mack
• Will Wade
• Drew Maddux

TBH there may have even been others mentioned, but those were easily the 3 they spent the most time talking about. No idea who their source is.

Here are a few takeaways:

- QB’s weren’t spectacular. I saw a lot of overthrows and throws that were in front/behind receivers

- Nate Johnson's mechanics are impressive, accuracy needs improvement

- CCL was with the defense the entire practice, not veering away at all toward the offense

- New OL Coach Chris Klenakis is a lot older than Blazek, impressed by his style

- Berlowitz threw the ball well, maybe the best of the quarterbacks

- Jerry Kill was involved with the lineman a lot, along with Klenakis — working a lot on that QB run scheme

- Too many logistical challenges to have a spring game + keeping film away from Va. Tech

- Martel Hight and Junior Sherrill returning punts

- I noticed a lot of the offensive line drills are different — a lot of handwork

- Punter Jesse Mirco has a leg

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Southeastern Conference has announced its football scheduling format for the 2025 football season, continuing with eight conference games which mirror the 2024 slate.

Similar to the 2024 SEC football schedule, during the 2025 season teams will play eight conference games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent.

Schools will play the same opponents in 2025 that they are scheduled to play in 2024, with sites changed for equal home and away competition over the course of the two seasons. The 2024 season is the first in which Oklahoma and Texas will compete in the SEC.

For Vanderbilt, this means 2025 will include home games against Auburn, Kentucky, LSU and Missouri, with trips to Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

“We continue to monitor changes across college sports as they relate to future scheduling,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling.”

The full schedule of dates of games for the 2025 football season will be announced at a later time.

The 2025 schedule format was approved by a vote of the SEC Presidents and Chancellors last week following a recommendation from the league’s Athletics Directors.

The 2025 season will be the second year that the SEC Championship Game will feature the top two teams in the 16-team Conference standings at the end of the regular season. Beginning with the 2024 season, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings.

The 2024 Vanderbilt football season opens Aug. 31 when Virginia Tech travels to Nashville. Premium seating for the season is already sold out and season tickets were renewed at a historic rate, but are still available for purchase by calling 615-322-4653.

   So this one has been all over the place. I’ve heard about 4-5 different names today. The only common denominator is Mack.Other names: Kelsey, Byington, AAR and one legitimately connected person said they tried to get Kim English.

Tom Collen of course was Vanderbilt's WBB head coach for about 48 hours before an alleged transcript discrepancy forced a reversal, and we hired Melanie Balcomb instead. Collen was eventually vindicated and I believe he successfully sued the University and/or reached an out of court settlement. Regardless, it was not Vanderbilt's finest hour. Tom Collen's wife Nicki Collen is the head coach of the Baylor Bears, having followed the legendary Kim Mulkey in that role. She reminds me a great deal of Shea Ralph, both highly competitive. It should be a great game, and one Tom Collen will watch with special interest, though likely no bitterness, he has no doubt turned the page on his Vanderbilt "career."

Now on the online roster.

Vanderbilt and Columbia will face off in a play-in-game at Virginia Tech at 8pm CT. The winner of this game faces Baylor on Friday.

These two teams faced off last season with Vanderbilt grabbing a 74-63 win.

I've spent a lot of my morning and afternoon trying to gather clarity on what's going on with the search. It seems to be a quiet day and I'm having some trouble knowing what new and meaningful info to pass along but here are some things of interest:

- If I had to pick one person and say "this guy is the next coach," it would probably be Chris Mack, but I'm less confident than I was a day ago.
- I think if Candice could get who she wants, it would be South Florida's Amir Abdur-Rahim. Obviously he's been a terrific coach and I hear glowing things about him as a person, too, but he's also been able to recruit to places with next to no admissions standards and is more of a find-talent-and-roll-the-ball-out-there guy like Bryce Drew was, and the thought is that might not work. (A source also tells me he has "no interest" in the Vanderbilt job, so, there's also that, ha.)
- The big question I have is, who is really leading the search process? Is it Candice, and she'll filter out the candidates and then come to Diermeier with a recommendation for his approval? Or is Diermeier leading it the entire way? I think it's the former but I'm not entirely sure.

Can anyone provide info about RJ Austin, Jack Bulger, Cam Kozeal, Andrew Dutkanych, and their availability for the 3 game series this weekend. I was also curious about JD Thompson not pitching the mid week game. Is he perhaps being held in reserve due to something going on with another pitcher? I also would like to know if Chris Maldonado's shoulder is getting better, and what's the prognosis for his future.

Let me further say I want to respect the privacy related to any medical issues, and/or strategy regarding player availability on the behalf of our coaching staff. I'm just a fan and a old bored retiree that wants to know everything.

I think our two biggest sports have taken considerable steps backwards and are not trending the right way. She gave extensions to coaches who didn’t earn them. She was going to keep Stephanie White (in fact she was the one who hired her) until there were basically going to be no players left to play. Of the big 4 sports under her tenure, only one has made postseason play (no the NIT does not count). And it doesn’t appear any seats are even Luke warm at this point. Stack is coaching like he’s got a job for life. Easiest $$ he’s ever been given.

So what does she do well? She doesn’t seem to be a great fundraiser. She gets snippy in pressers when she’s asked for specific details. It took VU basically 2 years from the announcement of Vandy United to put shovels in the ground.

At what point do all of McGugin’s failures fall on her shoulders? She wasn’t even given an interview when DW retired, and literally 12 months later when MT resigned, she was the only candidate considered for the job. Tell me how any of this makes sense.

VUWBB fans, why are we underdogs tonight? And for anyone that’s seen both teams play, why would you bet on?

I’ll be putting a couple hundred on Vandy regardless but was curious why we were underdogs to an Ivy League school that’s lost to our only common opponents?

Not who do you think the admin but who would you choose amongst realistic options

Talked to a source today and I’m comfortable in saying a search is underway.

An offer has not been made.

The search is focused on coaches with Power 5 head coach. Guys who could fit: Kyle Smith (Washington State), Chris Mack (unemployed), Jerome Tang (Kansas State), Dusty May (may get the Louisville job).

Tang would be super interesting and a terrific hire. I think he's wanted out of Kansas State since the school kicked Naquan Tomlin off the team.

If they go Non-Power 5, Josh Schertz would be in play. But I don't think that's their aim.

Also told by another source: Renaissance hired a week before the SEC tournament and the call to fire Stack was Diermeier’s call.
