NCAA projections collector thread

I don't feel like looking them all up at the moment. But it feels like fun to collect them in one thread.

So Saturday morning (?) D1 had us as a 2 in Raleigh. I know the S-curve isn't officially operative, but with all the Southern teams "regionalization" just means finding a non-SEC region that roughly balances strength if possible. So against #11 NCSU we'd figure to be roughly the 6th best 2-seed which is impressive.

In their projection Raleigh also includes UConn and VCU and sits opposite Clemson (which includes South Carolina as the 2). So lots of fun super-regional potential including Corbin-Bakich.

If you figure a loss to the national #1 drops us, then the next non-SEC ports of call are vs. Virginia (#10) and FSU (#8). In particular we might trade places with LSU who they have as the 2 in Tallahassee. Then again for regionalization the first two make more sense for us.

This board is upside down

So let’s see. We have someone call Corbin lazy. We have someone say he needs to learn from our new basketball coach who doesn’t have a single win yet at Vanderbilt (more on that). Many gripe about the baseball program while lauding this coming football and basketball outcomes, where we haven’t done well in forever and where the football coach has thus far proven himself to be a pretty large disappointment. Yet with Corbin, is there a single college coach out there you’d trade him for? I most certainly would not. He always wins.

Can Corbin adapt more? For sure — we all have blind spot. I think given the nature of our best recruits often turning pro without ever coming to VU the portal is even more important. But give me a break, he needs to learn from HCMB? MB had to fill an empty roster — he had to go to the portal. He was going to sign a bunch of transfers out of the fact if he didn’t we wouldn’t have a team. Just because the group of radical fans declare each transfer signee amazing player doesn’t make it so.

Everything in football and boops is TbD but we do the same thing here, and I’m not kidding, every single year. Last year was going to be the Clark Lea and Jerry Stackhouse breakout years. It’s easy to proclaim that when it’s all hope before the season starts. But wait until football season when we get bashed around in the SEC. What will be the magic cure next year? We bring in a new strength coach!

Corbin outworks pretty much all of us. Lazy? Wtf? You can’t be dominate every single year - in any sport. But you can make the tournament every year if you have the best coach. I honestly don’t get how if you are objective about baseball, football and basketball you’re in the minority here.

I rarely do this: These Vols are special and have earned our hearty support

Not because I respect them, of course. Chuckle.

Sometimes in tournaments folks will cheer for a rival to advance so that their own team can do the honors of sending the rival home. Generally I'd rather the rival lose early; why should we have to hear from them during those extra rounds?

But this time, the whole sour grapes thing from TN on Wednesday night is tipping me toward wanting to meet them in the final. So y'all were just looking to get a bit of action to prepare guys for next week without tiring out too much? That's not true but let's pretend it is. Then I'll pull for y'all to beat State and LSU (both in extra innings, natch) so we can send you home in the final, with no trophy and no extra rest.

In addition to supposedly thwarting their goal of minimum fatigue, such a run to the final would expose the stupidity of their sour grapes. Because obviously when they're not getting drilled by Vanderbilt, they want to advance too.

So, who do we want on Saturday?

I go Mississippi State because that gives us the easiest path to the finals, plus, I do not want Tennessee to have a shot at the finals. If I knew we would beat them again, obviously, Tennessee, but their lineup is way better than Mississippi State, so that's why I say State.

Of course, I wanted ATM, but that wasn't meant to be.

Being off Friday is a HUGE advantage. It is so big.
