Vandy Golf - East Lake Cup on TV

VU Golf is playing in the East Lake Cup (again) on Golf Channel. The replay of today’s match play is on now and the finals will be tomorrow. We smoked UTsr today and get Arizona State tomorrow in the match play final.

College golf central is on the Golf Channel at 1:30pm tomorrow then live coverage of our final at 2pm.

Anchor Down.

Mason/Chad Morris/Lea/Healy

I don't know how close Morris and Healy were but from what it seems, they were both in the hunt but we ultimately decided on Mason and Lea..

I get hiring coaches is tough and a crap shoot most of the times but these 4 names tells me a lot. This dumpster fire of a program will never be fixed until the people at the top start making better decisions.

it's sad how many fans we had in 2013 Vs today. 1 thing cures that though and it's winning. And we are going to have a losing streak Vs P5 teams that reaches 30 straight.
Quite embarassing

Dansby Interview

Dansby was in studio for about an hour interview on a Atlanta sports talk station. As he came in, hosts said he was wearing a Vanderbilt football t-shirt.

I got a call when he was talking about Vanderbilt baseball program so missed that part but then he later spoke about other VU sports. Said people laugh at him when he says he's from an SEC school because of football but he talked about baseball and golf team's success and that he thought men's and women's basketball were trending in right direction. Said he likes Clark Lea and what he's doing and impressed with Swann but depth is a big issue for them. Thinks school is finally investing in athletics and that will begin to pay off for football and other sports. Hosts joked that in few months after he signs his free agent contract, the school would be hitting him up for big donation.

They asked if UT being ranked #3 bothered him, and he said he doesn't like them and won't allow his fiance to buy anything orange.

Just for Fun - Hubert Davis Blocks Out Stack . . .

. . . from consideration any time soon for the UNC job (although at least some of us think that Stack does not want to stay long-term as a college coach, of course, which means the "blocking out" is null and void) (Of course, I know Davis could "flop" and be let go prior to the end of his contract.)

Basketball Takeaways From Jerry Stackhouse, Liam Robbins, and Ezra Manjon's Media Availability (10/25)

Jerry Stackhouse, Liam Robbins, and Ezra Majon spoke to the media today in what is likely their final presser before the season opener.

Jerry Stackhouse Availability:
- Thinks that the 2022 freshman class is his most talented group, he's going mainly with his older group right now but thinks the freshmen could get more into the mix as time goes on
- Thinks Malik Dia can play the five, Stackhouse continues to rave about Dia's pure talent, says Jordan Wright has as well. Stack noted that Dia is still learning the college game, the defensive end, and how to share the floor with other high level players, though.
- Thinks the offense is a strong-suit and that it may be flowing better than it has at this point in past years.
- Vanderbilt still wants to hang its hat on being a defensive unit first.
- Stackhouse signed the extension because he believes in what they're building as a program. He wants to take the next step as a program and finish what he started.
- The goal is to get into the NCAA tournament and make some noise, Stackhouse says he believes that the goal is attainable with this roster.

Liam Robbins Availability:
-"I'm completely healthy this year, I haven't missed a single practice or workout or anything like that, I'm back to full health"
-Has worked on his outside shot, rebounding, and his handle this offseason
-Talked about how talented Lee Dort and Malik Dia are
-Raved about Ezra Manjon's defense
-Thinks they will be a disciplined, impressive defensive group

Ezra Manjon Availability:
-Thinks his role will be more oriented on fitting into what Vanderbilt already has rather than being a primary scoring option
-"Defensively I think is where I really show separation, I love defense"
- Said that Paul Lewis is "developing like crazy right now" and that he "will play this year"
- Thinks that they will be able to separate themselves with how active they are defensively

The "Talent Gap"

Lots of talk the last few days about our "talent gap". I have been a fan for 50 years and we have ALWAYS had a talent gap. The fact that some of you are acting like this is a new thing is baffling. Like, how long have y'all been VU fans? Here is our class recruiting rankings relative to our SEC peers since 2010:

2022 14 last
2021 13 next to last
2020 14 last
2019 14 last
2018 12 2nd from last
2017 14 last
2016 14 last
2015 14 last
2014 14 last
2013 12 2nd from last
2012 12 2nd from last
2011 12 last
2010 12 last

NEWS FLASH--Of course we have a talent gap. Of course we typically wouldnt have multiple starters for other SEC teams. Is this really even an argument? Other coaches have figured out ways to scratch out a few SEC wins along the way. Hopefully Lea can do the same.

Football VU will beat South Carolina

USC isn't that much improved. They got the perfect storm against Texas A&M - returning the opening kickoff for a TD, and getting two turnovers deep in A&M territory that turned into 10 points.

Rattler (their QB) was a lackluster 12-of-25 passing or 168 yards, with no TDs. Their lead RB Lloyd had a decent game with 92 yards and 2 TDs, but they don't have a high octane offense.

I think it's our time, and as bad as the offense was on Saturday, the defense finally showed up. I think this team knows a few things it can do well now, and will be hungry to prove it coming out of the bye week. We'll also be at nearly full health.

I revoke my prediction if Swann isn't healthy in time, but otherwise I feel confident about this game.
