Offensive efficiency

Manjon/Lawrence/Wright/Stute/Robbins is the 8th most efficient line up in the country for a group that has played at least 80 minutes together…but have played the 3rd least amount of minutes together out of the that top 20 group.

Yes, I understand that injuries have played a part in this, but still…

What a 10 year Jerry Stackhouse tenure could look like

I think this was a question that Luke and Chris talked a bit about recently. While watching the Wisconsin- Northwestern game with my Wisconsin fan rommate, it came to me that Chris Collins at NU is probably close to what a 10 year Stack tenure looks like. Here's his record over 10 years:
2013–14Northwestern14–196–12T–10th
2014–15Northwestern15–176–12T–10th
2015–16Northwestern20–128–109th
2016–17Northwestern24–1210–8T–5thNCAA Division I Round of 32
2017–18Northwestern15–176–1210th
2018–19Northwestern13–194–1614th
2019–20Northwestern8–223–1713th
2020–21Northwestern9–156–1312th
2021–22Northwestern15–167–13T–10th
2022–23Northwestern16–77–5
You can nit pick here and there, but I think this is a very fair comparison, arguably a best case scenario. Not everything lines up exactly in terms of each year, but I think that it's overall a good comp.

Question for those that don’t want a change

(I am typing this before the ole miss game is over because the outcome should have no bearing on this discussion)

When I look at our team I see a bunch of average players (except Liam). You could have the best coach in the history of the league and not get this talent level to the NCAA tourney. Since this is his 4th year, why do you think this recruiting level will change? We aren’t in on any big time players.

At least with the last staff, they really recruited well. In three years they recruited DG, SL, SP and AN.

There just seems to be no hope…reminds me of the last few years of D Mason’s tenure.

Would love to hear why after four years our recruiting will get better because unless it changes we can’t be a top 25 program with a bunch of average players.

Vanderbilt baseball scrimmage/practice at Lipscomb

Came back from church and saw a Vanderbilt bus sitting about 20 feet from where I parked. Went in the arena thinking it may have been the basketball team but nobody was in there so I walked out to the baseball field. Turns out Corbin wanted to practice on grass so they came here and scrimmaged. Got there a bit late so I missed seeing the starters and what I assume was a few innings. Have some takeaways, though.

Standout plays:
Vastine hit a homer off of Thomas Schultz

TJ McKenzie hit a rope off of Maldonado but it was caught by Calvin Hewitt, who made a diving catch in center.

RJ Austin hit a double to win the scrimmage.

Lineups:
Green team:
Bradfield (center)
Mckenzie (left)
Schreck (right)
Polk (second)
Chris Maldonado (third)
Alan Espinal (catcher)
(Notes are a bit spotty past this point of the lineup but these players hit in this order after)
Troy LaNeve (didn't see him in the field, very well could've been out there)
Ivan Arias (shortstop)
Raymond Velasquez (first)
Matt Wolfe (subbed in at first)
Cade Law (came in at catcher after Espinal)

Black (the first at bat I saw was Bulger so I couldn't tell you who led off but assume it may have been Diaz):
Diaz (short) (moved to second)
Austin (third) (moved to first)
Noland (first) (moved to third)
Hewitt (center)
Vastine (second) (moved to short)
Bulger (catcher)
Rodgers (right)
Poeteet (Caught when Bulger didn't)
Kodali (left)
Holbrook (didn't see him in the field, assume he may have played the outfield a bit)

A few sequences:
Ginther gave up a rope single to Devan Kodali, walked Cooper Holbrook, grounded Diaz out to first. RJ Austin hit a ball to the Warning track which was caught. Kodali scored, though. Struck out Parker Noland to end the inning.

Ginther went out for a second inning and grounded Calvin Hewett into a double play (runner was on to start the inning), Jonathan Vastine grounded out to first.

JD Thompson came in for Ginther, Bulger grounded to short but the first Wolfe didn't pick the throw, Rodgers flew out to center, Poteet struck out, bulger stole second, Kodali struck out to end the inning.

Grayson Moore struck out Bulger, Rogers, and Poteet.

Jack Anderson went 1,2,3 in the first inning pitched. Went out for a second inning, hit Schreck, Matthew Polk ripped an RBI double to left to score Schreck. Chris Maldonado grounded out to third for the first out, Alan Espial ripped a grounder to third but was thrown out, Troy LaNeve struck out to end the inning.

David Horn pitching, struck out Bradfield, walked McKenzie, struck out RJ Schrenk on a long AB, Matthew Polk hit a comeback that got through, inning stalled from there, though.

Still learning my way with the baseball group so apologies for where the notes are spotty, planning on covering them a bunch this spring, though.

Coach Analysis: Josh Palmer

Josh Palmer only played for Montgomery Catholic for one season. He transferred in from small private school Autauga Academy. It is interesting when Kirk Johnson talks about Palmer's transition from that small school to Montgomery Catholic. It was a good interview.

Would You Rather…

Would you rather Vandy loses if it means that a coaching change will happen and a better future? Or would you rather a couple wins and things stay the same?

I’ve found this to be a complex question, akin to having your favorite pro team lose so they can get the top pick in the draft. Curious on everyone’s thoughts…

Season tickets question

Hello my dore brothers and sisters. I’m in the process of a divorce and I’m devoting myself to finally doing the things in life I want to do, like buying crypto, having a lot of sex, and ordering season tickets. How do I go about ordering for the first time? Any tips? Anyone want to have me sit near you so you can bask in the ambiance of my superior genetics?

No more laughing for Lawrence!

I pray that Lawrence prevents himself from laughing this week in practice. How about that performance? 18 and 10?

Lawrence is becoming a very nice player for us.

Great game for Liam as well, 19, 12 and 7.

Missed a few free throws down the stretch but a win is a win.

I know most of y'all aren't cheering for Vandy basketball anymore, but F UTjr and I hope we get the win on Wednesday.
