ACC Concerned about Only Securing 5 Tourney Bids - Sorry to Stir the Pot Again

Phillips says he believes the men's basketball selection committee has become too reliant on the NET rankings to evaluate teams, rather than just evaluating teams based on the way they play.

"We're paying too much attention to the NET. I'm just not there on that," Phillips said. "It does not reward teams that play 20 conference games versus 18 or less, and so that's one of the things I'm hopeful in the future we don't spend more time on or put more credence to it. I think it deserves less. In the end, the greatest thing we have in that committee is the eye test, and I think that's been ignored. Go sit down and watch these games and watch who the best players are. I know the committee does that. I understand how that goes, but in the end, I don't feel that has really resonated the last two years with our teams."

Apologies to Dia and Shelby

Well, qualified apologies.

If either of those two were simply "processed," I apologize for calling them babies or immature on this website.

If they were told something to the effect of, "you can stay, but you're not going to figure too much in next year's team" and chose to leave, same, I apologize.

If they were they left because they didn't like the playing time they got on a veteran team as freshmen, they are soft and I stand by my comments.

Hope that makes sense to y'all.

Regardless, I thought both were going to be good players for us and I'd love to know what really happened, but I sincerely doubt we will get the whole story.

Mississippi State baseball's Chris Lemonis after 26-3 loss vs. Vanderbilt: 'It's on me'

STARKVILLE — There was a sense of excitement regarding the chess match between Mississippi State baseball coach Chris Lemonis and Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin in Friday’s series opener.

There was the matchup of MSU switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje and a Vandy lineup featuring four left-handed batters and five right-handed hitters. There was balance of the Commodores’ strong pitching against the Bulldogs’ powerful offense. There was the dynamic of Vanderbilt outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. stealing bases at will while MSU struggles to throw hitters out.

Those tuning in for the intricacies of a rematch between programs meeting for the first time since the 2021 College World Series championship series were supposed to be treated. Instead, they were given a 26-3 rout for Vanderbilt – ignited by a home run from Bradfield three pitches into the contest.

Mississippi State (14-9, 0-4 SEC) has lost 15 straight SEC games dating back to last season. The latest came in seven innings with Vanderbilt (17-5, 4-0) run-ruling MSU at Dudy Noble Field.

“I’ve got to figure it out,” Lemonis said postgame. “It’s on me. I obviously don’t have the team prepared to play. When you play the way we did tonight, it’s on the head coach. I’m in charge of the program and I’m in charge of our performance. Unfortunately, our performance isn’t where it needs to be.”

Lemonis said buy-in and competitiveness aren't the issue.

MSU’s last SEC win came April 29, 2022, in its series opener at Missouri. The last SEC series win came the week prior when Mississippi State took two of three at Ole Miss.

MSU was 25-18 overall and 9-10 in conference play following that win vs. Mizzou. The Bulldogs appeared to be gaining momentum toward an NCAA Tournament bid until the Tigers took the final two of the series. Including those two losses, Mississippi State went 1-12 to close its first losing season since 2015.

The number of losses are part of the shock for a program at the top of its sport less than two years ago. However, the nature of the defeats adds to the bewilderment.

Mississippi State lost 21-0 against LSU in 1946. That was the worst margin of defeat against an SEC foe in program history until last season when Tennessee took a 27-2 win at Dudy Noble Field.
In its first home SEC series since that thumping, MSU opened play with a 23-run defeat. Twice in its last four SEC home games, MSU shattered a record that previously stood for nearly eight decades.

Pitching has been the root of the issues with MSU. During the conference skid, the Bulldogs are allowing nearly 12 runs per game.
“I don’t think there’s a disconnect, but I think it’s a maturity factor,” Lemonis said.

When asked about Lemonis taking accountability, second baseman Amani Larry shifted focus back toward the players.

“It’s not his fault because he’s not playing the game,” Larry said. “It’s our fault. We know we’ve got to play better. He can only do so much.”

Did Parker get denied a chance

In the grand scheme of things athletes probably shouldn't concern themselves much with records and be focused on the game and records will come. That said the run rule in the SEC prevented Parker Nolan from at bats (at least one) and we fans love records and stats especially in baseball.
I'm wondering what might have happened if they play on. Also the 15 rbi ncaa record was probably safe as 5 more runs to break and 4 more to tie would have been more than phenomenal.
All that said to state that his 11 rbis in a 7 inning game might probably is an ncaa record for Parker Nolan, but maybe not....

Any statistics gurus out there have any info on this? How difficult would it be to check it?

Thank you all

Hey everyone, wanted to come on here and say I really appreciate all the support this season and the opportunities that you guys following has given me. Last season I covered Notre Dame's season from my basement and went to the SEC Tournament as a fan with my dad. Being able to cover every home game from the gym, go in the pressers and feel like I belonged there was surreal. Never got old and don't think it will for a long time. It's been incredible to see everything from Memphis to tonight. Still remember that Memphis game vividly, was like drinking out of a firehose, was also scared to ask anyone a question after haha. Have had so many unbelievable moments with so many different people in so many different places that felt surreal to be. Got to cover games at Memorial, Rupp, Thompson-Bolling and Bridgestone this year as well as the Yum! Center and at Notre Dame for Lipscomb. All of those games were incredible in their own way. The coolest part has been the relationship building, though. There's a lot of people on the Vandy beat like Aria and Bryce Smith along with people within the program that have looked out for me. That has been a huge blessing. You guys have been awesome to talk with, as well. Love coming on here hearing from you all about whatever is going on. After being on the ND beat last year I've been blown away by how encouraging you all have been, feel like a lot of you guys legitimatley care about my development and not just what I say about the team. I've been recognized around the gym a lot lately, that's been the coolest thing ever for me. Again, I appreciate all the support this year, definitely meant a lot and still does. Can't wait to dive more into baseball and basketball portal/recruiting stuff.
