I wanted to take one last look at the metrics to see how we ended up:

Almost exactly what they were pre-regionals.
7 regional hosts lost; the difficulty level of their regionals were as follows (!=hardest, 16=easiest)
1. Sou Miss
4. Ole Miss
7. Oregon
9. Clemson
13. Georgia
14. Texas
15. Vandy
There was no #16 as Vandy and Auburn tied for #15 as the overall easiest regionals.
Of the 8 National Seeds, 3 were ousted — #1, #2, #7 — 62% winners, about average
Of the 16 hosts 9 survived, #3-6 won, as did #13-15. That’s only 56%, much lower than normal.
Between #7 and #12, 4 of the 6 were ousted.
Very top did poorly; very bottom did well; middle ones devastated.
Top SR by combined RPI:
1. Coastal - Auburn
2. Tennessee - Arkansas [UT’s RPI went down from 11 to 13]
3. Fla State - Oregon St [Fla State improved from #14 to #9]
Worst SR by combined RPI:
1. Murray St - Duke [even with MSU’s RPI jumping up 19 places from 86 to 67]
2. Miami - Louisville [we had the easiest regional and could have had the 2nd easiest SR — it was all there for the taking]
3. UTSA - UCLA [however, each of those team’s RPI went up a lot, +7 for UTSA, +5 for UCLA]
Remaining Cinderella teams: Murray State, UTSA
Only 3 remaining seeded teams are guaranteed going to the CWS — #8 or #9, #4 or #13, #3 or #14
The possible range of # of seeded teams to make Omaha: low 3, high 6
The possible range of # of non-seeded teams to make Omaha: low 2, high 5
Given that 7 of 16 regionals were upsets (44%, quite high) if this trend continues through the SR’s we’ll likely end up with 4 seeded/4 non-seeded teams in Omaha.
Duke or Murray State are guaranteed to go despite it being the worst of the 8 match-ups.
Louisville or Miami are guaranteed to go despite it being the 2nd worst of the 8 matchup-ups.
Three seeded teams are guaranteed NOT to go to the CWS despite 2 of them being among the best match-ups.
