Football Upcoming fall practice coverage

Practice is going to start July 31 and access is going to be similar to past years, we should be able to see most of everything and report to a reasonably-thorough degree. They don't like daily depth charts, reporting on formations, or certain specifics, but our access is going to be as good as it is anywhere.

Joey, Billy and I will take turns going. We should have most covered. I am hoping to be there much of the summer, however, a lot of that will depend on personal situations with me. As most of you know, my aging parents have required a high degree of care. Getting them in assisted living this summer has helped but there have been intermittent hospital stays and all kinds of stuff that's taken a lot of my time. That limited me to seeing one practice in the spring, which I could never have anticipated, but hopefully that'll be different in August.

But either way, I think between the three of us we will have you pretty well covered.

We'll run a little bit of pre-camp coverage also, probably will start rolling that out next week.

Baseball - "Corbin Successor" (Not That It Is Happening based on the Athletic Interview)

A panel of the Clemson board of trustees approved Brownell's enhanced contract, along with new deals for men's soccer coach Mike Noonan and baseball coach Erik Bakich on Thursday.

Bakich had the baseball team hosting a home NCAA super regional for the first time since 2010. He had two years added to his deal through the 2030 season. He'll receive a raise of $325,000 next season for a salary of $1.275 million.

Bakich would receive raises of $50,000 each season going forward. He will also get retention bonuses of $200,000 should he remain with the Tigers this Sept. 1 and in September 2027 and September 2029.

Kill, Beck, and Pavia

As much as I think that this football season will be another nightmare for us VU fans, the 10% chance we have of being better than the 2-10 or 3-9 I think that we will be rests solely on these three.

Kill's reputation speaks for itself. He has won at some pretty hard to win at places. He is obviously a Franklin-esque type of motivator., something sorely needed on West End with milquetoast on the sidelines.

In this day and age of college football, everything is geared towards the offense, and ours has SUCKED since Ludwig, Shurmur, and Vaughn were on our team. Beck and Pavia give me hope after watching Pavia's highlights running Becks offense.

Like some of us has been saying for years, deception and presnap movement can help out tremendously, and Becks offense looks like it has plenty of it.

Again, I think we are in store for another long year in football. But, if we have a surprise year, it will be because of these three.

Can anybody speak to the arms we have on staff?

I have seen a few of you say that you’re beginning to feel good about the lineup but that you feel like we don’t have a good pitching staff.

With that said, I’d like to see an assessment of where we are right now if the offseason ended today (knowing that Corbin is trying to find another arm or two).

Here is what I know:

JD Thompson
Ethan McElvain
Luke Guth
Brennan Seiber
David Horn - Edit - he gone
Alex Kranzler
Miller Green

I like all of the above arms. All are SEC talents, all are likely to be drsfted and play baseball professionally.

Who do we add to that list?

Any rising sophomores who came in with high rankings who we can expect to make a jump? Any under the radar guys?

Any incoming freshmen who come in with high rankings who may be able to move the needle?

Any transfers in?

Any chance we give Devin Futrell enough NIL to return?

My overall impression is that with the 6 very talented arms I mention above, I would assume Corbin will be able to add another 5-7 talented arms to that group and we, once again, will have a pretty damn good group.

@Chris Lee @Billy Derrick

@Joey Dwyer @DoreFan @vandyaustin @papahick4VU

I think we have a chance to be looking at a damn good team next year. All the pieces aren’t in place yet but the Mad Scientist is in the lab, fellas.

Do we have any upside football outliers ?

When Vanderbilt has been decent in football in the past, we have had one or two players on either side of the ball that were anomalously better than the opposition on most teams. Cutler, Bennett, Mathews, Vaughn, etc. 11 subpar on O and D gets you beat every time. 9 regular guys and 2 studs won’t win 10 games, but it can keep you in a lot of games and win a few you don’t expect . Will we have that on this team ?

Perhaps We Should Be More Positive on the Potential Baseball Lineup

Seems apparent Barczi is our going to be our catcher.

Nelson is apparently a top 10 JUCO bat at least by this source.

Kropf was a 20 HR guy last year and Mancini 15. I wanted one more big time portal bat that might be a little more “proven” but fact is if the team is gonna get to where we want it all to go it starts in the batting cage with Coach King this fall.
