Opening lines

I am no longer a season ticket holder, so I confess that I do not personally contribute to home attendance, but I am still curious about it. So, two questions:

Was the attendance for the Elon game about what you expected?

How big of a crowd do you expect on Saturday against Wake Forest? It is our last home game until October 8.

When was the last time the SEC Network did their version of GameDay here? Well they will be here Saturday for Wake.

I’m not sure what people expected, but we are still not a good team. We clearly don’t have the horses yet. But, Lea is saying and doing all the right things. We are clearly better than last year and we will win again this year.

Listen to his post game interviews. I was really impressed. No rainbows or unicorns. He was not happy bc he knows it wasn’t the best effort. He called out his coaches when appropriate. He acknowledged Wright had a good game but he also said that he needed work. What I heard was, “glad we won, but that sucked, and it’s not acceptable.” I don’t give two sh*ts whether he was smiling, frowning, jumping up and down, whatever during the game.

He kicked two promising freshman off the team bc he is not going to let anyone destroy the culture he is building. That takes guts.

If he keeps recruiting at the current level, we will be bowling soon.

Wake is going to be tough. I doubt we will be able to stop them. I’m certainly not expecting a win, but I think we will see a good effort. We need to beat Northern Illinois and get two SEC wins to call this season a success. I think we can get it done.

I’m glad we got Lea. We look better so far and, obviously, he is a disciplinarian.

I'll make the deadline, Thursday September 1st. Draft will be Sunday or Monday September 4 or 5 around 7:30 or so, give me input as to which you prefer.

We'll start with some visitor feedback. Beginning with one of Vanderbilt newest 2023 targets who was on campus for an unofficial yesterday for the game.

"Vanderbilt was great," Foster noted. "The hospitality, campus, facilities and etc are great. Definitely in my top schools. I can see myself playing here one day and helping them continue building the program."

Commodores are his first power five offer. Foster also has offers from Marshall, Army, Navy, and others. He plays both sides of the ball for his high school, but Vandy is recruiting him as a safety.

Foster says he plans to return to Vanderbilt again later this season. He also noted that Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Troy, and UAB are some other programs that have started following him and expressing some interest.

I love standards and accountability. I love winning more.

I get whatever Smith did was worth some suspension. I also feel like not having him available hurts this team. He needs to be playing and suffer some other way. There's more than one way to make a point. Unsuspend him already.

the first 2 games were not going to tell us much. Wake should be a good indicator of where this team is.

Down 2 TDs to Florida State. Shocking a Brian Kelly team would disappoint in a big game.

I don’t know if Davis , Lee, Ouatara and company will be better, but we need help there in the worst way. We can’t rush from the edge and we can’t get penetration and plug the gaps.

I don’t know who Seabass is (sorry, Seabass—I left Tennessee after I graduated), but he is an excellent guest. I’ve really enjoyed the casts with him, as well as the ones with Corey and Will They are equally insightful and entertaining in different ways. Great job and thanks also to the excellent sponsors!

First of all, we are 2-0. That's great!

Unfortunately, last night's performance against Elon showed that most of last years problems are still around, primarily defensively. Western Kentucky beat Hawaii 49-17, so you can see just how awful Hawaii is and that you can't take anything away from that game.

Against Elon, we had no pass rush, our corners couldn't cover freaking Elon's receivers, and apparently with the game on the line, the offense stalled, all of this against a high school team.

Yeah, I hear some of you talk about the injuries. Should those really matter against Elon? Nope. They didn't matter in getting leads of 21-0 and 35-10. But, since they cut the lead to 4 points and 11 for the final score, now the injuries are an excuse? It shouldn't matter against the second worse team on our schedule.

Lea, as we all know, has his hands full. Hawaii made us think great progress had been made in the off season, and offensively, maybe we have. Defensively, this team is going to get destroyed from here on out. If Elon can score 32 on our defense, well, you can see the future, and it isn't pretty.

Is it possible that Lea and his staff have been holding some things back, playcalling wise, to not show anything for Wake? Yep, it's possible. For our sake, we had better hope so, or we just saw our last W this season.

I like the new coaching staff they seem to have a lot more fire on the sidelines and even Coach Lea seem to get fired up.

Can't judge the new PA guy when you couldn't even hear him.

We were up 21-0 in the first quarter. I stopped paying attention.

Now I look, and Elon has 2nd and goal down 11.....

I guess we aren't as good as we thought.
