(And I'd address it there but I can't seem to easily find it, so I'll do it here.)
Someone asked me a question to the effect of what the problem is with this team. I want to be clear that this is entirely a speculative guess but I wonder if there's something to this.
Before the year, someone who knows that program really well commented that the team had four scoring point guards and that could be tough to manage.
Well, let's take a look at where things are. This team has four scoring point guards getting minutes, with the highest-regarded one out of high school getting the fewest minutes.
This team also struggles to shoot--41% from the field, 29% from 3--and has almost no offensive presence in the post.
In the midst of this, one interesting thing is happening: Scotty Pippen Jr. has gone from being a fringe Power 5 prospect
to a pop-up NBA prospect.
And with all those other dynamics in the background,
Pippen now has the second-highest usage rate in the country. (And FWIW, McBride has a 25% usage rate in limited time, which is second on the team.)
I'm not throwing stones at Pippen here; I think he's really talented. I just see a roster that's cobbled together (with the exception of Disu, who's talented but clearly not "there" yet) with those two and a bunch of role players, and someone has to take the shots.
I just think this all seems like a really tough dynamic to manage and there aren't a lot of good answers.
Again, just a theory.
