FB Roster Partially Updated

It appears that the football roster has been updated to include incoming freshmen. However I don’t see Brycen Coleman or Eli Stauers listed although I have heard they are on campus. The player measurements also have not been updated.
Anyone know when the roster will be updated with the new heights and weights? I was looking forward to seeing what the new S&C program had done in the last 6 months.

OT: USA make-or-break tonight vs Uruguay in Copa América

Since we have a lot of various sports discussed OT, and Vanderbilt is in the United States....

This is historically the South American championship, which has been opened at various times to various North American teams too. They actually let the US host it in preparation for the tri-hosted World Cup in 2026. Since it's the only challenging tournament left for us to participate in before 2026 -- the North American regional championship is pretty crappy, although at times we manage not to win it including last time around, and friendlies are friendlies -- this is sort of a last competitive tune-up for two years.

Uruguay, despite about half the population of Tennessee, is a historical world power who's been resurgent and is sort of a trendy pick to win this tournament over larger nations like Argentina (reigning world champion ::vomit:: ) Brazil, and Colombia. This is the final of 3 games in the group stage, in Kansas City, and the US has put their backs against the wall by losing the other night to Panama. Top two advance from the group, and technically they could even lose and come in 2nd.

  • If we win, we probably make it unless Panama beats Bolivia by at least 2 more.
  • If we tie, we need Panama to tie or lose.
  • If we lose, it needs to be fairly close, and we also need Panama to lose. But Bolivia has been really bad so far.

Game kicks off at 8 pm CDT on FS1.

MBB: New metric for NCAA Selection Committee.

The NCAA announced yesterday:

“The evaluation of teams will be enhanced by the addition of two metrics as the committee voted to include the Torvik and Wins Against Bubble rankings on the team sheets.

"The committee has always valued different data points and metrics to assist with its evaluation process, and these two metrics have increasingly been referenced by members in recent years," said Dan Gavitt, the NCAA's senior vice president of basketball. "Adding them to the team sheet ensures that all 12 members easily have access to this data. The Torvik rankings, along with BPI and KenPom, give the committee three predictive ratings, while the WAB, Strength of Record and KPI give them three results-based metrics, all of which, in addition to the NET, will be beneficial to the team evaluation process."

Wins Against Bubble. Can they possibly make it any more complicated.

Michigan St fan…

Played golf with a Michigan St fan yesterday in our Match Play Tournament (almost Stephen Ames’d him) and we talked a little basketball.

A few things:

1) He said he hated AJ Hoggard, that he was a horrible shooter and pretty much the reason they sucked last year.

2) He didn’t know that Hoggard left MSU for Vandy. He was happy about that.

3) I asked if Hoggard was a victim of expectations, he said definitely. Said he was really good his sophomore year (could have been his jr year) and they expected more then he took a step back. Said AJ got into Izzo’s doghouse.

4) He said MSU only added one transfer and that Izzo is very anti NIL spending.

5) When asked about the baseball transfer, he said nobody cares about MSU baseball.

I’m sure some of his info was wrong, he’s an 09 MSU grad, big fan but he clearly doesn’t live on message boards like y’all nerds do. He did say he thought Hoggard was an NBA player but was just maddening that he shot free throws so well but couldn’t make an open shot when needed.

I will say that the fact that we have 3 point guards on the team is a big deal. Don’t need to put all of our eggs in the AJ Hoggard basket but if he plays well, that’s a very good sign.

I don't want Vitello

This is for the UT lurkers who think that all other schools want Vitello. I won't presume to speak for all VU fans, which is why the title is "I" and not "we." That said, I think that most VU fans would agree with me.
After the Jordan Beck bird-flipping incident, I asked a couple of VU starters how Corbin would handle the matter. They assured me that the player would never see the field again. I don't know what Tony's "discipline" included, but it did not involve playing time.
This year, one of the players told me that when he told Tony that he would be playing for VU and not UT, Tony hung up the phone without saying another word.
Corbin will not chest bump an umpire.
Corbin will not cheat.
Go to a VU baseball banquet, and watch Corbin, without notes, talk about a player's mother, father, and siblings, and tell me you would not want him coaching your son.
Coach Corbin is not perfect, but there is no one that I would rather have leading VU's program.

volleyball attendance

I have never attended an SEC volleyball match and am wondering what size crowd volleyball attracts in the SEC. Anyone know? High school volleyball is very exciting and entertaining and the skill level can be exceptional. I would expect Vanderbilt to start with a fairly small crowd but I think the crowd size will increase as fans discover how much fun it is to be there. Anchor Down.
