Kudos to the STUDENTS!!!

This might have been mentioned in other threads, but we can't praise these students enough!

The were absolutely on top of their game. They showed up early, they packed the Bank, they were loud, they inspired the team and miraculously equated the massive tide crowd, they storm the field and rip down the goal post, then they collectively take the damn thing right down the middle of Broadway and get VU on media outlets that wouldn't have been otherwise.

Looking at the replay and the excitement after the game, if you didn't know Alabama out numbered us, the students made it look like the whole Vandy fan base was pouring onto the field... they were great, beyond great and have a partial claim to the win.

Also the screen when Pavia says "where is my family""where is my family" and the jubilation that followed was just the best, and the end of the game to the goal post scene was the best 5 minutes of vu footballs modern history.

The Vanderbilt students are legends!!!!!

Alabama post game presser…

I was a little surprised
DeBoer didn’t once say “credit to Vanderbilt” or some derivative thereof. Usually you hear a losing coach say “credit to the other team; they made the plays they needed to make and we didn’t”. But not here. It was all about what Bama didn’t do versus what Vanderbilt did do. Clark in his post game presser went out of his way to say what a good football team bama was, which is true. Figured DeBoer would’ve said that we were a good football team, too.

Kentucky

Cats open as a 13:5 point favorite and coming off a bye week

They are big and stout on both sides in the trenches and it will be tough for Vandy to run on them

their QB from Ga is big strong who throws and runs well. They held Ga to no TD’s and could have easily won the game

This will be a much different test than Alabama.
Will be interested to see how they hold up

Interesting field rushing fine trivia

From the attached article:
- VU will be fined $100k
- The fine will go to the Alabama - basically we paid Bama for the natural consequence of beating them.
- Every Bama road loss since 2010 has come with a field rushing fine for the home team. 8 times, the most in the league.
- Kentucky, no surprise, leads in opponent court rushing fines - 7 times.
- This is the sixth time VU has paid a fine, the most in the conference. $730k worth
- The fine amount is $250k for a second offense, then $500k for the third and any subsequent offenses.
- The first monetary fine rule was put in place in 2004, and had increasing amounts. In 2015 and 2023 rules were redone and the fine amounts reset.
- The Alabama AD thinks the fine should be replaced with forfeit of the game just won. Like that will ever happen.
- Alabama, Georgia, and MissSt are the only schools never to have paid fines. VU and UK have paid 6, Arkansas, LSU and USC 5 each.

The now 1-60 top five record

I know this is based on the AP poll which started in 1936, but I would think that one of Coach McGugin's teams would have beaten a top five team during his tenure. Any football historians know if that was the case with some other polling service at the time?

Also, I've heard a lot about Saban never lost and would never lose to Vanderbilt. But in the 2007 game, Chris Nickson threw a long pass on first or second play that was caught by Bennett but they called offensive interference on him which was very questionable. That led to a punt that was returned to the one and then a Bama TD. Later we had a punt return for td called back for a facemask penalty which I don't recall if it was legit or not. Anyway, I just remember a couple of officiating calls that changed the momentum and cost a decent Vanderbilt team a shot at beating Saban.

De’Rickey Wright

I want to give a shoutout to De’Rickey. For some reason, he’s been a punching bag for Vandy fans over the last two seasons, with many labeling him as “always injured” or “too slow to play safety.” While Randon gets credit for the pick-six, De’Rickey made a crucial play by shutting down Ryan Williams and getting a hand on the ball. He followed that up with a strong performance the rest of the night.

Kudos to him for battling and sticking it out at Vandy for 5 years!!! Glad he didn’t end up in college station.
Also, has to feel good for the former Bama commit to beat his home state team.

SOV is Dead

...for anyone in that locker room. Sure, we'll clutch defeat from the jaws of victory again. Every team does.

But this group of guys will not walk into a fourth quarter visualizing defeat. How could you after this? They just went up against the best dynasty in college sports, ranked #1, who was fresh off of legitimizing their ranking by beating the other best team of the decade so far. We scored on the first possession and led the whole way. Put up a 40 burger. Ran it down their throats on the last possession when the whole stadium knew it was coming. Ran victory formation. On #1 bama.

There is no bigger dragon to slay. It's dead. We're here. Let's ride.
