A good, solid, much needed win. Especially if they want to be in play for the NIT. They needed this one badly.

But, man, did they try to blow it.

First, the bad.........

Lawrence started the boneheadedness up 7 or 8 late, he got the defensive rebound and dribbled it off of his own foot out of bounds. A chance to go up double digits and eat up some clock in the process gone.

Then (I don't remember the exact order of things) Manjon misses the front end of a one and one, Stute elbows someone in the chest bringing the ball up the court for an easy offensive foul, Robbins lets a guard take the ball away from him after a defensive rebound.... every one of these resulted in points for Pitt. That last couple of minutes was a clinic on how to lose a game.

Now, the good.......

You gotta give these cats credit for winning the game, especially Lawrence. After he dribbled off of his foot, he hit a big three and two absolutely clutch, game winning free-throws with basically no time left on the clock. He's becoming who we hoped he would be.

Robbins is a beast. What do you do to a beast? Feed him. Give him the damn ball more, dude is a stud.

Stute. Best shooter and has the attitude you need at least one guy on a team to have. But, he's also going to do something stupid every game. Just have to live with it.

Wright is who we thought, glue guy that does a little bit of everything, team MVP imo.

QMB. Ditto Wright, minus the team MVP part.

Manjon is a pretty good on the ball defender and has a nice midrange game. WORK ON YOUR FT's!! You're a PG, you're going to get fouled late, don't be a liability!

Dort. WTH!! We have another Festus!! Not ready yet, but man, this dude reminds me so much of Festus athleticly and physically. Excited to watch this kid develop.

Ansong. A less talented Wright, but, definitely has a role.

TT. Our microwave. He's going to win us a couple when he's on, lose us a couple when he's not.

Bottom line, I see potential in this team, but first things first, gotta stop the dumb stuff. When you're this limited of a team talent wise, you HAVE to play smart. We didn't last night, Lawrence just bailed us out.

This is as dumb and shortsighted as the extra covid year. What happened was tragic. But only 2 games were cancelled in a season that was going absolutely nowhere.

Year after year, game after game, it seems like other teams light it up from three point range in Memorial, while we struggle.

We are currently 2-12, Pitt 6-9

Joey has the flu and I've got a prior commitment but I'll cover from home tonight.

To reiterate, we feel pretty confident that Vanderbilt will land commitments from Jalen Gilbert and Misael Sandoval. Both were on campus for official visits this past weekend. As @JustinAngel mentioned last night, Sandoval backed off his San Diego State pledge and cancelled his upcoming OV there. Expect him to officially announce his commitment today at some point. Gilbert is expected to go public sometime this week or early next week.

Clark Lea, Joey Lynch, and Alex Bailey will be in Mississippi tonight to watch WR commit Duran Parish play in his basketball game.

As for this upcoming weekend, for now Vandy expects to have around roughly 6-7 official visitors in town depending on how the next two days go.

Vanderbilt WR commit Kenric Lanier is a name to watch since Minnesota is making a strong push for him. Lanier was visited by both staffs this week and is expected to be at Vandy this weekend for his official visit. No official has been set with Minnesota at this point, so it seems the Commodores still have the advantage of keeping him here.

WR coach Alex Bailey will go visit another pass-catching target in Klein Cain (Tex.) product Jaelen Smith on Thursday. Smith is coming off an official visit to Michigan State over the weekend and has an OV set up with Minnesota this coming weekend. So, Vandy is making a push to add even more receiving weapons to the class.

Current Colorado quarterback commit Ryan Staub is a name to keep an eye on. Vanderbilt OC Joey Lynch recently went to watch him throw and we'll see if an offer and an official visit will materialize with him. Obviously, Deion Sanders is dropping a lot of the current commits from the Buffaloes class currently. Not sure how Sanders feels about Staub, but it's apparent the kid is keeping his options open.

Also of note, RB target AJ Newberry backed off his Colorado pledge last night. The three-star prospect was at Vanderbilt over the weekend for an official visit. Not sure if that's good news for the Commodores since we haven't gotten a response from Newberry. But, it's something to keep an eye on.

ICYMI, Rivals Southeast Analyst Ryan Wright caught up with Stockbridge (Ga.) cornerback Nireek Sharpe, who Georgia Tech recently dropped due to defensive staff changes. The three-star has been hearing from a lot of schools, but specifically mentioned NC State and Vanderbilt as potential official visit destinations moving forward.

Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile, one of the biggest breakout stars of the season's first month, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL in Tuesday's win over UNC Greensboro.
Brazile will undergo surgery on his right knee later this month, the school said.

A 6-foot-10 sophomore who transferred to Arkansas from Missouri last spring, was averaging 11.8 points and 6.0 rebounds this season. Brazile had multiple eye-opening performances in Arkansas' first eight games, scoring 20-plus points three times - including 20 points and nine rebounds against San Diego State - and also going for 17 points and six rebounds against Creighton at the Maui Invitational.

He was the team's leading rebounder and shot-blocker despite not starting a single game, while also shooting 37.9% from 3-point range.

Brazile had moved up to No. 50 in ESPN's latest 2023 mock draft.

The NCAA granted a full extra year of eligibility to senior UVA football players due to the shooting that occurred. I really just dont understand this. It is a horrible, horrible event, but why give a full extra season to guys who played 10 games? This means that these players could potentially end up with 7 years of eligibility including the covid year. They could leave college having played in 72 regular season career games.

West Point (Miss.) 2024 athlete Kahnen Daniels, who hauled in his first SEC opportunity and first college offer from Mississippi State, has garnering the attention of Vanderbilt recently, visiting with the Commodores during their final regular season game against in-state foe Tennessee.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound recruitment target out of West Point, Mississippi spoke with VandySportsDotCom about how it felt to visit with the Commodores and discussed the overall atmosphere at West End and his takeaways from the gameday experience.

"I was very new to the area, it was my first time being in Nashville," Daniels said. "I loved the atmosphere, and I would say my favorite moment was when the players walked into the stadium."

During the in-state showdown between Tennessee and Vanderbilt, Daniels said the Commodores' running back room caught his attention as he watched them all game.

Daniels, who picked up an offer from the Commodores on Nov. 21, said the program got involved in his recruitment around Nov. 14 as he initially connected with Vanderbilt senior personnel analyst Kendall Lawson before meeting with run game coordinator and running backs coach Norval McKenzie. Daniels added that he liked how the Commodores' coaching staff seemed genuine and had high spirits about him visiting with the program.

"I was communicating with Coach Lawson mostly. Then, the running backs coach after that," Daniels said. "They all seemed genuine and had really high spirits about me."

In addition to the SEC opportunity from Vanderbilt, Daniels also holds offers from Mississippi State and Southern Miss, and has also garnered the interest of Ole Miss. The 2024 recruit out of the Magnolia State, has also visited with both the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles this month.
