Some positives this morning

In VU sports, and in life, I seek for the good. Here are a few from last night:

Holton pitched well, as did Ginther.
Giving up 3 runs in 9 innings (or even 4 in 12) is pretty impressive in that park.
The bottom of the lineup was very productive.
EBJ always bounces back, and he hit some hard balls last night.
UT used up (I hope) a couple of key bullpen arms.
Tim Corbin is our coach, and he does not like to lose.
I feel more optimistic than I did after our opening loss to SC last week.

Trust me, I am aware of the negatives from last night, and I am as bummed as anyone. The sun came up today, and we play again at 11:00.

Just watched the replay of the game tying HR in the 9th

Maldonado made a good pitch. Ahead 1-2 in the count and was looking for the game winning K on a nasty slider that was down and out of the zone. The UT hitter made a good adjustment to go down and get it in front of the plate. The sound on contact didn't seem right for an aluminum bat. When you replay the HR the sound on contact is similar to a paddle hitting a ping pong ball. Does anyone check the bats anymore? Interesting that UT had just 6 hits but 4 left the yard.

Here's a controversial baseball take

I would rather this not be against UT, but I really think we need to lose this series. We need to get humbled as we've haven't lost a series all year. Even the 2019 team lost a couple series. I also think losing this series would prompt us to finally make the lineup changes we need. Bulger should definitely not be in the cleanup spot and probably not in the lineup in general. Diaz has to stay in the lineup for defense, but he cannot hit whatsoever right now. He needs to be hitting 9th to get his confidence back, and even if he doesn't, he still shouldn't be hitting 2nd.

MBB Roster as of 4/21

PG: Ezra Manjon, Paul Lewis
SG: Isaiah West
SF: Evan Taylor, Jason Rivera-Torres, Malik Presley
PF- Colin Smith, JaQualon Roberts
C- Lee Dort, Carter Lang

Obviously, first order of business is to get Tyrin Lawrence back as the starting 2. After that, there’s a lot of shuffling that can be done between who’s playing the 2 and 3, but this is just how I had them listed for now. Hopefully the staff can land at least one transfer big who can give good minutes. The remaining two spots outside of Lawrence need to be used to give us front court depth, imo.
