Pitching going forward

Grayson Moore did a big thing tonight by saving arms and absolutely dealing.

I would think vs Xavier you will see Hliboki start and Reilly be in relief. After that I have no idea who will start games.

Do you try and throw Cunningham and JD Thompson as your starters in games 4/5 if you get there. I’d have to believe that Schultz might be available on Monday but I’d think Moore is done. Still have a lot of fresh arms but have to win 3 in a row now.

Terry Crisp sat across the aisle from me atop the first base dugout. (and stayed to the end). What a fine gentleman. Off the ice, there are four people responsible for making the Predators a solid hockey franchise: David Poile, Barry Trotz, Pete Weber and Terry Crisp.
Well, the VandyBoys are on their way with a solid win. But, Vandy fans, as Terry would say---tomorrow the fans have got to "BRING THE PASSION"

New kicker commit

And I think this is of major major importance - - > Jacob Borsila (Grad 2yrs eligibility) former First Team Academic All-BigXII is now a Commodore. Arrived to Nashville early to begin summer workouts. He had 2yrs of starting success at Kansas but endured a significant nagging injury early this past season and elected to have successful hip surgery last Fall. 100% recovered. This kid is essentially perfect on XPs and converted some big FGs at Kansas in some big games.

For those of you who watched the Spring Game….although I was quite impressed with the improvement all around it was obvious we wouldn’t win many games without a new kicker. I was puzzled at how little discussion there was about this. The new freshman recruit didn’t participate so he may well be great but he’s inexperienced.

MBB 2023-2024

With the roster being finalized today, where are we at with the upcoming basketball season? It’s realistic to say we could get 30 ppg from the backcourt between Ezra and Tyrin. Evan Taylor fits in very nicely at the three alongside two elite drivers who will draw the focus of the defense. Colin Smith is ready to take the sophomore leap. Paul Lewis is a really good backup PG who shoots almost 40% from deep. Ven-Allen Lubin looks to be a rock solid option down low. There’s a lot of interchangeable pieces. I’m comfortable saying that if this team stays healthy they will be in the NCAA tournament.

On a semi-personal note

Many of you may remember me talking about my nephew, Ayden Eberhardt, who walked on at Wyoming and got a scholarship after two years and ended up starting his last two seasons. He's a great kid and I've been super proud of him and most of you know that traveling to see him play a couple of times a year over his career cut into what I could do on football coverage here.

Well, Ayden tore his ACL with about four games left in his senior year, which basically wrecked his shot at getting in an NFL training camp last year. But this year, he got an invite to training camp what the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League and caught six balls for 104 last week (at the same time Vanderbilt was playing Florida in the SEC tournament--I was keeping an eye on both at the time).

Anyway, he's playing his last exhibition game tonight before the regular season starts. I'm about to settle in and watch that. I think if he plays well tonight, he'll probably make the team.

And man, I hope he makes it. Seeing him play pro ball would be a real thrill after all he beat to get here.

So just thought I'd share that for all the families of the players here, or the parents who've got a son or a loved one trying to live the dream. I think it's given me a new appreciation of what everyone in sports goes through.

Sankey mentioned history and tradition won’t necessarily be the only deciding factor across the board. Obviously Iron, Egg, Red River and Cocktail will be preserved. Is VU UT on that level and is there a historical basis to pair VU with Mizzou or UK? If so who would you pair with UT?

Cheers

As y’all know, my reason for being here is that I am a huge Vandy fan. My dad and uncle went to Vanderbilt and I grew up close enough to where I could hear football games from my house when I wasn’t there in person as a kid. I was raised in Memorial Gym and was actually the youngest kid ever to attend a Vanderbilt basketball camp (my dad begged CM because both of my parents worked and my older brother was already going so they didn’t have anywhere for me to be. Coach Newton agreed because he was a great man). Summer basketball camps at Vanderbilt were heaven for me as a kid, that place was my home away from home. I attended a few Vandy baseball camps under Mewbs too. My mom actually hired Vandy baseball players to watch me during summers (Tim Brecht and Vance Schulte). Vanderbilt athletics are in my blood and that’s why I eventually ended up joining this site.

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t enjoy making enemies and even though I’m admittedly a huge clown, I hate the fact that I have double digits people here who’ve either quit, threatened to quit or have decided that I’m their enemy. @Chris Lee is a good man, father and husband and to hear that I have hurt his business is enough for me to step aside. I want no part of that.

I’ve enjoyed meeting and getting to know a bunch of y’all. The Vanderbilt community is small but feisty and I want nothing but the best for our fans and the teams we cheer for together. To all of you who I’ve offended or been a jerk to over the years, I want to offer my sincerest apologies. To any of you who’ve decided to overlook my faults and had my back, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.

Here’s to hoping for a win tonight and a great postseason run by Corbin and the Dores!

Anchor Down!!!

To all our our weak minded former basketball fans…

This message is for all of the “fans” who had an online temper tantrum at some point proclaiming “I’ll never be back until Stackhouse is gone…”

1) Social media is just terrible.

2) We’ve probably lost 1-2k fans who had a temper tantrum on social media, painted themselves into a corner, and now believe that they’re not “a man who stands behind their word” if they actually come back.

3) You’re a much bigger clown for being “a man of your word” than you would be for simply admitting that you’re a Vandy fan and don’t want to deprive yourselves of the enjoyment of finally having a good team to cheer for again.

In summary, while I think those who claim they won’t be back are ridiculous, I think it’s time to grow up and come back. That’s only if you’re actually fans of Vanderbilt athletics.

Sankey’s Biggest Mistake??!!

Is Greg Sankey making a big mistake by pushing the 9 SEC conference games? Hopefully, someone out there knows more about this than I do. However, my current understanding is:
-It will NOT generate anymore revenue
-Several longtime rivalries will end
With 9 conference games/3 non conference games, will there be fewer SEC teams that get to six wins? If so, that will definitely mean less revenue from bowl games for members. Thoughts??
