Football Practice thoughts coming, but two quick updates of things that happened today

1. As someone else noted, Daevon Walker was moved to corner today. I think that says a lot about what London Humphries and Junior Sherrill have done.

2. Darren Agu left practice today with an injury of unknown severity. I have no idea the severity of the injury and they prefer not to comment on it until they've put him through testing but we were given permission to mention that this happened today so long as we stayed away from specifics. I'll respect that and let you know the situation when Clark Lea updates it, which might be tomorrow.

Football We will still watch college football but....

Regarding the forming of "super conferences"-----I have been with Vandy for many, many years so yes I will be at every home game and watch every away game rooting for the Black and Gold and enjoying every minute of it (I hope). But I would much prefer to watch Vandy versus Kentucky or Ole Miss than Vandy versus Texas or Florida State (should they join). Take your pick--Kentucky versus Tennessee or UK vs. Oklahoma. Georgia versus Florida or Georgia vs. Texas. Conference games and rivalries are what college football is built on. It is going away. As for other conferences and games, I'll still watch, often because I can bet on the games. But still the football on the field is still great even though I may not know what players are now playing on what team. But just as when, years ago, television and its money took over the scheduling of game dates and times, eventually this trend is going to really hurt college football. I have to wonder whether teams outside of the three super conferences will even survive this. Anyway, stiil can't wait for the Hawaii game. Anchor Down.

Saturday's practice report (practice No. 9)

Today wasn't extremely noteworthy. There weren't as many live sessions, I'd guess because tomorrow's scrimmage will be live and they want to manage the workload. I've combined Chris' thoughts with mine:
  • CJ Taylor, De'Rickey Wright, Jaylen Mahoney, Christian James (back), and Ethan Barr sat out.
    • CCL: "We have four of our top-line defenders who won't be playing tomorrow. That's disappointing, but it's also four guys that have played a lot of football for us. Our focus is on them being back healthy and not necessarily rushing back to the reps. They're probably ready to be out here, but we want to make sure there's not a recurrence."
    • CCL also said Taylor, Wright, Mahoney, and Barr all have hamstring strains.
  • Walter Taylor looked really good. (threw an absolute bomb)
    • Taylor is an interesting case study. He's made some throws that confuse me, but he's also made some throws that pleasantly surprise me. He's got the size, but they're looking for him to develop consistency.
  • Safety Marlen Sewell and LB Bryce Cowan looked really good.
    • I'm keeping an eye on him as he competes for playing time at safety. He's another Coach Mason recruit that stuck out the lean years and has put in his time.
  • Martel Hight just keeps making plays.
  • London Humphreys continues to beat defensive backs off the line of scrimmage.
  • Landon Wells made an impressive catch on a throw behind him.
  • I'd say my top two performers were QB Walter Taylor + Safety Marlen Sewell.
  • Coach Lea said they still have a "few too many soft tissue injuries", but that on the whole, they like where they're at health-wise.
  • Gamarion Carter claimed he's the fastest WR on the team and thinks he should race Jayden McGown + London Humphries to find out.
  • Quincy Skinner said the offense is "light years ahead" of last season
Looking forward to providing coverage of tomorrow's scrimmage. Closed to the public.
