Off topic Local sports radio

Nashville sports radio is missing the boat not talking local college teams. Most stations have to same show everyday, who are the Titans going to draft or will Soros be traded? It's the same stuff all day long 365. Sadly I compare every talk show to Mark and Kevin who proved you can talk Vandy, Titans, Preds, Belmont and even the ugly orange team each day over a 3-4 hour broadcast. Local radio today is just boring!

Baseball Baseball - what positions are on lock?

After 13 games, I feel like we know a few things so far and have some positions in the field and lineup up in the air.

Positions on lock:

-Vastine at SS - I like him in the 9 hole.

-Diaz at 3rd - Diaz is solid

-Espinal at C - better at C and better hitter than Bulger, right? Appears to have the cleanup spot on lock.

-Austin wherever - 2b appears to be on lock so either CF or 1B depending on other players’ health and success

-Jayden Davis at 2b - to me, I like his bat in the 2 hole and his glove, so I think he has this one on lock. Do we need to see more to know if he’s the guy or do others agree here?

-Kozeal as DH - if Davis has 2b on lock, I guess Kozeal stays at DH. Can Kozeal play LF or RF? I like both Davis and Kozeal batting 2/3 respectively.

I feel like the above 6 are guys we can win with and if I had a gun to my head, believe Corbin feels the same way.

3 other spots for several players…

Hewitt - appears to be a key part of the team and his defensive versatility is a huge plus as he can play any outfield position effectively.

LaNeve - Can play left or right field, feel like he’s going to primarily go against righties and maybe sit vs lefties. I’d prefer him to just be a beast and earn a full time position but if he’s not, we have good right hand hitting options.

Humphrey - is he legit? His speed and defense may move him to CF on lock, right? If he was just sick this weekend, does he move back to a full time lock in the outfield depending on where Austin is playing?

Bulger - you can’t sit Kozeal for Bulger, right? Unless Camden proves he can’t hit lefties, which doesn’t appear to be the case, Bulger may struggle to get at bats. Can’t sit Espinal for Bulger, right? It’s nice to have two catchers who can hit but this may be an issue moving forward. How does Corbin solve this one?

Maldonado - I think Maldonado may be the odd man out here. Pinch hitter, runner and or defensive replacement. You’re going to need depth but I’m just not so sure Maldo can fight his way back into the lineup unless we have some injuries or spot starts due to weather.

Polk - his versatility will help him get on the field but when Maldo and Bulger are healthy, I think Polk is the odd man out.

Ossenfort and Holcomb - both big power but not sure they get into the lineup this year. I’d love it if they did. What do y’all think about these two?

What am I missing here?

How to fix the mess Candice created…

I think things are really coming to a head for the first black female AD in big time college sports so I want to pose the question, can her mess be fixed by her?

I say yes and here’s how:

1) Fire Jerry Stackhouse expeditiously. It doesn’t need to drag, he needs to be gone at the absolute latest by Selection Sunday.

2) Hire a good coach. We have a ton to offer a new coach. Top 25 coaching salary, new facilities, a historic and fantastic gym, a fanbase that prioritizes basketball and being in the SEC (P2 is a big deal now).

3) Fire Andrew Allegretta and hire a decent play by play. I’m sure Andrew is a decent person, but he’s the worst pbp guy I’ve ever heard. It’s infuriating listening to him.

4) Tell Vanderbilt fans and alumni what they are planning on doing with the majority of VU’s football stadium!?!?!!!!! Chairbacks, more restrooms? Being in the dark about that at this point is truly bizarre.

So there it is. What did I miss?

Kozeal Named Freshman of the Week

Camden Kozeal led the SEC with 14 hits this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Camden Kozeal is this week’s SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Kozeal led the SEC with 14 hits this week, helping lead the Commodores to a 5-0 record against Indiana State, Evansville, Louisiana, Houston and No. 15 Texas.

The freshman also led the SEC in RBI (11) and was tied for the lead in doubles (3) and total bases (23).

Kozeal started off the week with a 4-for-5 game against previously undefeated Indiana State. He followed that with two hits against Evansville on Wednesday, two hits against Louisiana on Friday, two hits against Houston on Saturday and another 4-for-5 game with a home run on Sunday against No. 15 Texas.

He also scored six times on the week including three runs in Sunday’s win.

Kozeal and the Commodores host Eastern Michigan at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Field. Head coach Tim Corbin currently sits at 999 career victories after Sunday’s 14-11 win vs. Texas at Minute Maid Park.

Other Sports Bella

I posted something about Jordyn and felt guilty about not mentioning our other senior, Bella LaChance. Early on, Bella became one of my favorite players because of her unbridled enthusiasm and spirit whether she was on the court or on the bench. Bella played some good minutes early on and seemed to have a knack of turning the ball over the very first time she touched it, but after that, gave you some solid minutes. As the younger players developed, Bella's minutes decreased but her enthusiasm and spirit never did. Every team needs a player like Bella. Bella came in with a little over a minute to go and the crowd was yelling "get it to Bella". With about 30 to go, Vandy had a sideline out-of-bounds and you could see the other 4 players plotting how they were going to screen, etc. for Bella. Well, they did, and Bella drove to the goal. But Georgia was not going to let her score, so Bella ended up under the goal falling out of bounds, having no choice but to kind of throw up a "shot" as she was going down. Of course, it went in. The bench went crazy, the crowd went crazy, Bella ran down the floor going crazy. Just a touch of "Memorial Magic" for Bella on her Senior Day.

Basketball University investigation of Candice on this $14M+ buyout?

How many college basketball coaches have an 8-figure buyout? How many with an 8-figure buyout that have 2 of the worst records in school history with a high water mark of the NIT?

Did Candice do something shady here or is it just incompetence? Was it something of a “I have an opportunity to pay one of my own in the name of DEI and I’m going to do it” and if that’s the case this thing is just out of control. Even for those who are delusional with this topic.

I’ve heard it’s north of $14M and if that is the case there will be no coaching change people. Heads need to roll.

What is the reason for this buyout?
