It has become increasingly clear that our basketball AD’s decision to fire Drew led to his inability to fire Derek Mason this fall. I don’t think Turner fully knew how bad he screwed the fan base by firing Drew, or he probably would have considered keeping him around.
So my question is:
Would you rather have kept Drew for one more year, increased talent and know that we had the money to fire Mason this fall?
Or
Fire Drew, leave the roster with almost no talent, hire Stack (who we all think is a better coach than Drew), but have to retain Mason because of the lack of buyout funds available?
I seriously doubt Turner had any idea what he was walking into with Mason considering that the Shurmur and Ludwig led team had just gotten VU to a bowl game. I honestly think Turner realizes how dumb his decision was now, but he’s a basketball guy and he truly may not care about football.
