I think everyone has lost sight of the massive opportunities at Vanderbilt. Let's review for all the new eyes (friends of the coaches we want) visiting this site to check out the Vandy community.
1- P5 program in the SEC
2- fanbase waiting in the wings - take a look at You Tube videos (ReVealed ) from 2011-13. Check out the crowd, hear the noise! Those folks are waiting in the wings for someone to get them excited. Despite what you see on this board at this point in time (my goodness, make it stop!), once there is some success, this is absolutely the happiest, most friendly and appreciative fanbase in America. Our numbers might not be big at the moment, but we have to be the most loyal fanbase in the country. (I've been hanging on for almost 50 years)
3- Nashville - hot, major city. After the new coach brings back the existing fans (see #2), there is a massive opportunity to double, triple the fanbase by going after folks in the city. VU has never put the effort into doing this - so it is just waiting.
4- Chancellor Diermeier - new in the job and he is killing it wrt the university, faculty and alumni, and he has personal interest for wanting all our sports programs to succeed. We haven't had this type of vision or support in 50+ years. This is a guy who you can talk with about what you want and need; and he appears to take quick action. I think he came onboard in the summer and he is already getting stuff done.
5- Facilities - dismal BUT there will be a massive facilities upgrade/redo and fundraising to match. and this will be on your watch. Most other schools in the country are in a holding pattern right now if not suffering financial disaster. Instead, VU will probably be the only school going big. Wish the announcement would coincide with the coaching hire, but even if it comes during your first year, this will be a MASSIVE boost to you and the program that you can 'sell' to recruits and fans. This will the type of boost no other new hires at other schools will be getting.
6- two new assistant AD hires, one of which is a superstar with regards fundraising and facilities. McClelland from Louisiana Tech where he built an awesome stadium. He knows what he is doing. This was a Diermeier action.
7- other coaches at Vanderbilt. You will have fantastic colleagues; Corbin!!, Stackhouse, Ambrose, Macdonald (he is now assisting the new coach), etc. There ARE winners here. Look at what Corbin has done and built.
8- a true ability to design your program and fix certain existing problems for the student athletes and facilities ; order of new construction (locker rooms versus other things, etc), class scheduling, food services etc.(all things that may need work)
9 - a lot of BIG $$$ is out there and waiting. Mistakes and inaction of the past 50 years had some boosters sit back for a long time and watch but there is a lot of revived interest with the right coach.
10 - revisit #2 - Franklin was a god after just a few games here. In no other place, could the right coach have such a massive impact in such a short time. This place is a sleeping giant.
11 - and for good measure, I'll repeat - Corbin!!!
Hope some of the great coaching names that have been mentioned will take are hard look at VU. Can't hurt to have a conversation with us.
For existing posters here in the War Room: Is this post rah- rah - sure, but honestly instead of offering legitimate criticism in a constructive manner, and despite that fact that we have this perfect once in a lifetime confluence of great things: a new coach/new facilities/new booster money flowing in/Diermeier/ McClellan the likes of which we have never seen, some of you are doubling down on negativity and going out of your way to scare away any competent coach. You are extremely close to driving me away from this site, so what would a prospective coach see?
