Uzebu day to day
Leyton Nelson day to day
Agu is back
Patrick Smith is “fine”
De’Rickey Wright day to day, “feeling better, questionable for Saturday,” is going to jog today
They battled adversity Saturday
Loved they way they finished

Defense was charged with getting third-down stops
Was proud they held A&M to 3 on the opening possession
Would like to have the long pass back
Played with confidence in second half
Will have to project the ball this weekend
They’ll have to play complimentary football
Wake has an identity and a strategy and is growing its program
Has a lot of respect for Dave Clawson, he’s a mentor and a friend

How do they game-plan against the slow mesh?
It’s challenging because they separate their levels
Last year they didn’t do enough to project their corners
Wake thrives on the big-play pass so they need to limit explosives
Mitch is a good player, they didn’t know who they’d see last year and it was Hartman but they said last year it was a system and not just a player
It’s a unique style of offense
It’s about keeping layers, keeping body on body and capping the big play
They have to do a good job designing success in the scheme
They have to protect the ball on offense, fight for field position
All three phases limit points

Any distinction between how they run offense with Griffiths and Hartman
Very similar
Mitch is confident, he makes decisions rapidly, he knows where his matchups are and he’s impressive
Their are subtle differences in how late they get the ball out
Hartman was so good in late-down success and could get the ball in the flat at the last minute, Mitch will tuck it down and run it
But big plays are still there in the same places

Defensive line health

Zunk is back
James still a week or two off, he hasn’t practiced

What do you need to see from Swann this week
Good decisions with the ball
Can’t give them extra possessions or field position
It’s all a matter of how well you can play in terms of complementary nature of the game
They have to be patient on defense and build to the stop
He’d like to see AJ step up in decision-making

Special teams
Continued focus is what he expects
They’ve benefitted from building out of depth
They’re physical in how they’re blocking returns
They have to win in margins

Getting Ugo and Agu back and how does that help
Mentioned he was glad to see Cowan out there too
They knew they couldn’t get Ugo many snaps because he hadn’t practiced much
The more guys they play the more they engage in what they do
But it helps to take snaps off the front-line guys and keep them fresher
IF they want to be great late in the season they play who they need to play to win now

Evaluate the OL two games in
Saw some positives last week
Week 1, there were things they needed to do in protection where they fell short
This week they were more cohesive
Their RT depth got wiped out and so they had to play Morgan there
Alabama A&M did some things with shifts and stunts and blitzes
“We’re a work in progress.”

When they make mistakes, how do you categorize them?
IT’s not necessarily physical
They have to work together
If there’s a pressure they’ve identified they have to communicate and get all five on the same page
If one gets out of synch (and throw the TE in there too) you get exposed and off-schedule
Last week they had similar situations, they were off by one guys and they had negative snaps
He doesn’t question physicality

Update on Bapst
Was in a Friday car accident
It was a scary situation, just glad he’s okay

Sedrick Alexander
They have three good backs and he asserted himself and is fighting for more
Good feet, good balance, he can accelerate
Physical player, smart player
Anxious for him to get more and progress
Impressed with how he finished
