This season is beginning to remind me of the 2014 season and I'm sure everyone remembers how that ended.
They started off very good in February and March.
Then SEC play began and they started out 6-9. This year we started out 8-7.
Then the 2014 team got hot, winning 9 of their last 12 SEC games to finish 16-14 in league play, including a season-ending series loss to UT who was putrid at the time.
Went to the SECT as the #6 seed and left quickly.
Hosted a regional which they swept 3-0 over Oregon.
Then hosted a Super Regional and beat Stanford 2 games to 1. Only got to host because Stanford knocked off Louisville in their regional.
On to Omaha.
Despite losing 2 games they go the finals, which ended in the John Norwood Shot Heard Around the College Baseball World.
Our first national championship.
Now back to the present. Even if we lose today we'll be 10-8 in SEC play.
If we mimic what the 2014 team did the rest of the way we'll easily be a National Seed with a 19-11 SEC mark. But, just going 6-6 puts us in the mix to host a regional which our RPI, SOS, and record vs. Quad 1 teams would support.
Can we repeat 2014?
Nobody knows, but history does often repeat itself.
I believe.
