The good, the bad...

A few guys I would like to point out on defense. Caleb was a stud today. I said this about DH a few weeks ago. Same story with Caleb. He struggled a lot last year in the new D. He could have pouted or quit, but he stuck with it through difficult circumstances, including several injuries and family issues. Today was the best game he has played in quite some time, and we may not have won without him. Stokes has really made some great plays. That OLB is the position I worry about recruiting to the most in this defense, but he is going to be quite a player there, and I think Smith can be too. Tarpley brings some pop.

Shurmur was outstanding. He did not throw the screen or flare passes well. Other than that, I only remember one bad pass. He needs to get more help from his receivers.

The negative is that we still have a lot of work to do at OL and finding playmakers. Protection was good, but run blocking was only fair. See what playmakers like Boo Williams can do.

I don't have a problem with being somewhat conservative with our defense, but I feel like we could have gone for the jugular a couple of times today. It's not the frequent runs, it's just the predictability. We could have had more opportunities with selective play action. We were one play away from losing the game, and I feel that we could have extended the lead and made it more comfortable. Along those lines, why in the world did we take a delay of game at the end? Just milk the clock down and run the play. It might have made two seconds difference to take the delay of game. If we get a first down there, then UK has no chance.
