As of right now. Sagarin currently has us pegged at 129 which would be the lowest ranked team since Sagarins began.

Someone mentioned Schiano at Rutgers, and I actually had been thinking about that comparison. The year before Schiano arrived for his 2nd stint, Rutgers finished 135th. In year ONE of his 2nd tenure, they jumped up a mind-blowing 64 spots to finish 71st. That is some good coaching. Just like Vanderbilt, they were winless in the conference the year before. They also had worse recruiting classes than Vanderbilt (average composite of 56.6 the 5 years prior to new regime vs 54.2 for Vanderbilt).

Schiano didnt offer excuses or whine about not having enough talent or having to play with a bare cupboard left over from the Chris Ash regime. He just went out there and made them competitive from the get go by coaching his butt off, getting them to play with passion and discipline and believing they could win games they had no business being in from a talent standpoint. Was competitive in every game and pulled off some upsets. His team is 34th as of today, up more than 100 spots in less than 2 years. Unbelievable.

That's what good coaching looks like. It's not always the players--he had worse classes and is getting better results. We have such a loser's mindset ingrained in our fanbase we don't know what a winner looks like.
