It’s time for another weekly edition of the Recruiting Blitz, here…we…go!
- We caught up with Vanderbilt safety target Traveon Redd at the beginning of the week to recap his visit to Nashville last weekend – you can click here to check that out. Like Tennyson, Redd is expected to be an early enrollee and announce his college decision on July 31st. Vanderbilt is currently setting in a good spot with him after his visit and he told us that he will be back in Nashville in July as well. That could serve well for the Commodores.
- Another Vanderbilt target we caught up with this is California offensive tackle Sterling Strother, he was visited by Coach Lightner on Monday and said there’s a 90% chance he will visit Vanderbilt on June 25th. He also told us he attended Stanford’s junior day last weekend and he’ll be spending the night there on May 29th. Strother said he’ll know whether or not Stanford will offer after their June 18th camp.
The man himself, Justin Angel, talked with Strother back in late April after he received his Vanderbilt offer - you can read that here!
- St. Mary’s (Mich.) offensive tackle Cameron Kolwich became a new target for the Commodores this week after being extended a verbal offer by Coach Lightner. The 3-star prospect has an offer list that includes Arkansas, Illinois, Northwester, Missouri, Michigan, and other MAC programs.
“I know it’s a really smart school and it’s in the SEC. I have heard a lot of good things about it,” he told us of Vanderbilt.
Kolwich Highlights
- Vanderbilt also made the top 8 for four-star wide receiver Austin Mack according to Bleacher Report. Mack had some interesting comments regarding the Vanderbilt coaching staff in their article:
"I'm really high on their coaching staff. They might be the most intense college coaches I've met during this recruiting process," he said. "I really enjoy talking with (head coach) Derek Mason and his assistants."
"Academically, they're one of the more prestigious schools," Mack said. "The chance to play in the SEC with those kind of academics is huge."

- On an in-state note, we've been hearing that Vanderbilt is showing some interest in Rhea County 2017 tight end Jared Edwards. VS staff writer Donovan Stewart was at the Oakland/Rhea Co. scrimmage last Saturday and said Edwards had an impressive performance. He has good size, listed at 6-foot-4, 245-pounds.
Jared Edwards Highlights
- The VandySports.com crew will be at the NPA Tennessee Exposure Camp this Sunday at Tennessee State University. There will be a load of in-state prospects and Vanderbilt targets on display and we’ll be there for full coverage – videos, interviews, highlights, and more.
