1) Remember, UT is Texas and UTjr is Tennessee.
2) I thought our team was very tough today. The game got started on on a pretty bad note getting down 7- and then 9-2, then we fought back. We made a run and it appeared like we were going to run UT out of the building but we couldn't hit that dagger shot or convert on a few fast breaks. Texas got the lead going into half and we fought back early in the second half. Texas actually got up 10, and we fought back. Very tough win against a team with multiple future pros.
3) Jason Edwards had 15 second half points, he is truly a unique player that we can rely on. I remind others to give the kid a little grace when attempting some of the circus shots he takes because he's simply special at times too. His And 1 rainbow shot brought the roof down.
4) AJ Hoggard was AJ Hoggard today. Maddening at times and the best player on the floor at times and all in one game. He was fantastic on defense once again, and his toughness and belief was a huge reason we came back from down 10 to win this game. It should be noted that all 14 of AJ's points occurred in the final 10 minutes of the game.
5) I don't want to bury the lead, but Jaylen Carey was a man among boys today. 18 points and 14 rebounds is absolute insanity. Carey kept stepping up with tough takes and makes and he was an absolute physical mismatch when it came to rebounding. I think he was scary good today, like Texas was scared of him. As we know, the up and down nature of his game can be frustrating, but I feel like he always works hard and he was a big time difference maker today.
6) Tanner is still struggling a little offensively but he continues to be an absolute weapon on defense. He made it very tough for UT to get into their offense today, had a few good steals and 3 assists. I'm telling y'all not to sleep on him, because good things are coming from him.
7) We got more today from Manon and Huffman, which is nice considering we only play 9 guys. We need these guys to continue to figure out how to help this team win. For Manon, he finally had some nice finishes for 6 pts and 4 big rebounds in 10 minutes. Huffman didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet but he was a pest on defense and he was just a better player than he has been the past 5-6 games.
8) Tyler Nickel - Huge game from Nickel, he was just what we needed with 17 points on 4-7 from 3 and 4 rebounds. We are very good when he shows up as a 3rd scorer.
9) We outrebounded Texas on the day and only had 7 turnover against what felt like an NFL defense at times. One part of me likes the physicality they allowed today because I think it mimics the way you'd expect the NCAA Tournament to be, but you also want the refs to call blatant muggings.
