Michigan State recently hired a pass rush specialist to be their Defensive Ends Coach. This guys has trained 200 players in the NFL. This quote stuck out,
"In addition to bringing this impressive resume with him when he's out recruiting future pass rushers for the Spartans, its also being reported that Jordan will continue to train NFL athletes in East Lansing. This could also be a draw for future recruits who want to get an up-close look at what it takes to compete at the NFL level."
I think most would consider Barton an unorthodox hire, but at a place like Vanderbilt where you have to do some things differently in order to compete (unless our administration ever gives athletics the resources it needs), I hope our head coaches have the vision to be able to think outside traditional norms like this.
