Another big official visit weekend is on deck for the Commodores, highlighted by two four-star prospects and current commit Kevis Thomas. Let's breakdown each expected visitor.
- Walker has already taken official visits to Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Duke. So, he's clearly a wanted prospect and big get for Vandy to get him on campus and showcase their program. It's possible Walker could take a fifth official visit, although nothing is set up at this time. He's looking to make a decision before his senior season.
- Jobe already checked out Vanderbilt back in the spring and obviously gave him a lot to think about as he's returning to get an even closer look at the Commodores this weekend. The four-star is coming off an official visit with Michigan State. He has also visited Miami and Alabama this summer. His Top 8 also includes Baylor, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas A&M. An official visit with Miami could be in the works, so there doesn't appear to be a timetable for a decision with Jobe at the moment.
- I put in a FutureCast in favor for Vanderbilt after talking to him at the Rivals Camp Series in Indy back in April. Haven't wavered from that. Vandy is in the driver's seat here.
- Humphreys saw his recruiting process pop a bit during the spring. After hosting the CPA product back in January for a junior day, the Commodores jumped in with an offer after video surfaced of him running a 10.71 in the 100-meters. Virginia had Humphreys in for an official visit last week and the Cavaliers appear to be the main competition here. South Carolina has offered and is expressing interest, but he hasn't been on their campus yet. Humphreys also recently visited West End before his Virginia official to work out with Vandy WR coach Alex Bailey. Can the Commodores keep him in Nashville? They got a great shot.
- Carroll has been linked to Vanderbilt since the new year. The Commodores are the only official visit he's got scheduled this summer. Michigan and TCU jumped in with recent offers. It doesn't appear the Wolverines are much of a contender. Carroll did tell me he was thinking about taking a trip to TCU, but I'm not sure if that will materialize. Like with Sherrill and Humphreys, Vandy is in a great spot with Carroll and a commitment wouldn't be surprise. Vanderbilt likes Carroll as a linebacker.
- The longtime Vanderbilt commitment will return to West End. Thomas gave his verbal pledge to Vandy shortly after visiting in the spring. Although, that commitment couldn't be classified as "solid" as he's been flirting with Louisville and Maryland. Thomas is coming off an official visit with the Terrapins last weekend, so the Commodores will get a chance to make his pledge a bit more solid and keep him in the class. An interesting story to follow throughout the weekend and beyond.
- Fontenette is a super-productive athlete. He put up 1,440 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 1,066 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 78 receiving yards, 32 tackles and two interceptions as a junior. Vanderbilt likes him as a safety. Their main competition is Texas Tech, Boise State, and Utah - all those schools the three-star has taken officials to already. Have been told more of a second-tier option for the Red Raiders at the moment so the Broncos and Utes are the real competition. Vanderbilt defensive coordinator Nick Howell has been in steady contact with Fontenette since extending an offer back in February.
- Have confirmed that Calvin will also be on an official visit to Vanderbilt this weekend, following his tweet last night. The DT prospect out of Gibbs (Fla.) is coming off an official visit with Kansas. The Jayhawks are currently his first and only power five offer. However, that might obviously change this weekend while he's at Vanderbilt. Likely a similar situation as with Brewer (Tex.) tight end Ka'Morreum Pimpton a couple of weeks ago. With Calvin, he's looking to major in electrical engineering in college, so he's a high-academic guy and an offer from Vandy will definitely hold a lot of weight. Will it outweigh his longtime relationship with Kansas assistant Jim Panagos? We'll find out.
