I was somewhat encouraged by McElvain's performance today, by far the best of the year for him so far. He threw 75 pitches which was good. He struck out 7 of the 17 batters he faced, also good.
He did have 4 walks, mostly due to falling behind most of the batters and a somewhat erratic strike zone.
I think we got a taste of Corbs approach with him going forward -- he got in a jam in the 4th (mostly of his own making) and Corbs jerked him when he went to 2-0 on the batter. Unlike before, Corbs didn't leave him in to try to work out of it.

He brought in Kranzler who was superb and totally shut the X Men down. And then Miller finished them off.

Personally, I'd like to see what Kranzler can do as a starter but he's much too valuable as a long reliever right now.

McElvain's fastball is very nasty but he's got to get more consistent and accurate with his secondary pitches. You can't walk 4 SEC batters in 3+ innings and expect to be successful. That needs to happen soon as SEC action starts next weekend.
