Just wanted to update everyone on the recruiting situation with kickers/punters. I talked with Drew Schmid recently and he clarified that his offer from Vanderbilt is a preferred walk-on offer as a punter with the intent of earning a scholarship in the future. Schmid received that offer after his performance at Vanderbilt's Elite Specialist camp.
The La Jolla (Calif.) product also told me he has a preferred walk-on offer from Northwestern as well and plans to visit some Ivy League schools before making a decision. Schmid's older brother is a punter for Harvard. He also told me he likes Northwestern and Vanderbilt both currently - at Northwestern he's setup better in terms of depth chart position than at Vanderbilt - but he told me he's not scared of competition either.
So, to recap. Schmid has a preferred walk-on offer as a punter. Florida kicker Noah Ruggles has a full-ride offer as a kicker. I also wouldn't be surprised if Vanderbilt ends up offering another kicker sometime soon.
