and it's time to assess the Vandy football recruiting process at this mid-year milestone. Clearly many were concerned about recruiting from April to the camps started in June with many very critical statements being made about the current staff's capabilities in the recruiting process. Those that cautioned that it was too early to judge what the process would produce were quickly labeled as "lacking any knowledge of how the recruiting process works and it is all based on results or lack thereof at any point in time" or close thereto. Well, some of us stated that the time to judge the initial results of the recruiting process would be the end of June after the camps had concluded. So here we are and Vandy has 9 recruits of which none are 5* or 4* rated, however the class to date is solid with no reaches and all were evaluated by the head coach, the recruiting coordinator, the area recruiter and the position recruiter and judged worthy of a scholarship that was "commitable". According to 247 the class includes 8 very solid 3* commits and 1 2* that should see his evaluation increase as Miller has now gained significant size in a recent growth spurt and has not quit growing yet. He has good foot work and reach, as well. The 9 class size is tied as the second largest number of commits as of June 30 of any year, with CJF having one that had 11 as of June 30. On a percentage of available scholarships the current commits represent the highest percentage of commits at June 30. So for the crowd that was almost daily posting on how bad recruiting was going, how lazy the staff was, how poor the expectations were; maybe next time you can take a deep breath and realize recruiting is a process that is at earliest judged at mid-year. Vandy will need to work hard to retain all 9 recruits (and that is a good thing as Vandy has commits other majors do or will want).
