Dangerous question, but something NashvilleJay said in an earlier post made think about the question.
I would like to think if I could do recruiting all over again I would stillcome to VU. If I were brutally honest, in those days as a recruit, I ,may have selected Notre Dame (but they didn't offer me nor have interest).
With that said, if you were a modern [football] recruit, based on what you personally want out of life, your education, college environment, location, football, alumni base (and whatever else). . .where would you choose?
Assume you are a top 300 player. This does not mean your don't have allegiance to Vandy. Purely hypothetical. This also making a decision based on your 2,5 35, 40, 50, 70, 80 year old mine and the benefit of what you know today.
If I were a recruit today. . .it would be hard to turn Stanford down. Again, just for me personally.
