Would you be able to discuss or entertain what in your mind it would take for Vanderbilt to work towards establishing itself as a "State School" like other P4 private schools?
When I use that title, I refer to being referenced in the same way that, Duke is when discussing what big schools are in North Carolina. You always hear UNC, then Duke. Rarely do you hear Wake Forest, NC State, etc..
State Schools get sidewalk fans and have people buying gear at Walmart "just because," and will buy season tickets or go to games because it's a fun experience or event to take visitors to.
By doing this exercise, you are essentially winning hearts and minds, leading to younger fan engagement and better recruiting opportunities with middle Tennessee players, Tennessee players in general, trainers, and high schools.
Perhaps I am too naive about young men and women today and their parents who are closer to my age, 40's.
Here is how I broke down programs by name recognition in my mind as a "State School." Where would you put Vandy in this model? I would put them between Tier 2 and Tier 3.
Think about it in a tiered methodology:
Tier 1: Instantly comes to mind when asked about schools in a state
Tier 2: Might be more prominent but not top of mind
Tier 3: Yeah, they are also there

Tier 1: USC, Duke, Miami, Notre Dame
Tier 2: Stanford, Northwestern, Boston College, TCU, Syracuse, BYU, VANDY?
Tier 3: Baylor, Wake Forest, Syracuse, SMU, VANDY?
