Do grad transfers have to be admitted to a specific Department in the school- say the History or Biology Departments- or is there a “Division of Unclassified Studies” they can go into?
I ask because I know that admission into the specific departments is extremely competitive- more so than even undergrad- and the departments look to the grad students to say for the full term of their program and serve as teaching assistants rather than just be “one and done.” If you’re a teaching assistant you have to be pretty bright because you’re going to have to do things like grade student papers and explain to them why they were right or wrong on their answers.
