We VU fans should be glad they didn't get him imo.
He took Rutgers, who at the time was one of the worst power 5 football jobs in America (basically like Kansas football today), and made them respectable. So respectable in fact, you could say he's directly responsible for Rutgers being invited to join the Big 10, something that probably would've never happened if they were still winning 1-2 games a year like they were before Schiano.
His last 6 years at Rutgers:

07: 8-5
08: 8-5
09: 9-4
10: 4-8
11: 9-4
That's pretty impressive at a traditionally terrible football program. I'm glad they ran him off.
