As I sit in front of the fireplace in awe of the snow-covered Colorado Rockies and enjoying an up-market day, my near-perfect start to the weekend has come crashing as my wife suggests that my 1988 Vanderbilt "Sweet 16" tee-shirt should be retired after suffering an apres pizza sauce casualty last night. My mind isn't equipped to quickly assimilate the notion that something I've treasured so long has finally run its course and has instead shifted to memories of the hope that filled that road-trip with my old Towers suitemates to the Silver Dome and how good it felt to "believe". As my daughter grew, we often laughed at my having a VU tee-shirt that was X-times older than she. In a way, that simple cotton cloth was very much a part of the fabric of our lives as we've lived and breathed VU.
As I consider my own nostalgia and summon the courage to assure my wife that the 1988 tee-shirt isn't going anywhere, I wonder how many of you have a special VU item that inspires great memories?
