The 2025 CWS kicks off in Omaha today, Friday the 13th, Part 14: Freddie Freeman’s Frightful Fowl Flies
The CWS moved to TD Ameritrade Park, now called The Chuck, in 2011. This was also the year of Vandy’s first CWS trip ever where Vandy legends Tony Kemp and Connor Harrell gathered the first hit and the first HR ever at the new stadium.
Therefore, in my mind, this is only the 14th CWS that has mattered to me. I had never, ever watched a CWS game until 2011 when, fortunately, I made the trip to Omaha to watch the Dores, the #6 National Seed, go on to a 3rd place finish because, alas, we just couldn’t beat Florida that year [1 win, 4 losses, 2 in Omaha. This was the seed that sprouted by intense dislike of Kevy O’Sully.]
Since then, Vandy has owned the CWS like no other team — 2 national titles, 2 national runners-up, 5 appearances in 13 years, a combined W/L record of 21-10 for a winning percentage of .677, unequaled in the modern era of CWS baseball.
For comparison purposes, the famed bad-guy-everybody-loathes Tony V is 6-5, .545
This, of course, has caused most Vandy baseball fans to sour on any season that doesn’t produce a national championship.
What a spoiled lot we have become.
This year, for example, Vandy was the overall #1 seed, only the 2nd time in school history that has been achieved, both times by Tim Corbin, btw.
And yet, the Powers that Be of Baseball, @Trevor Hulan ,@WillByrum and @Anchordown0714 assigned grades of F, D+, and C for the season AND ALMOST ALL VANDY FANS AGREED. [Silly me also assigned a grade of F — what was I smoking! I’ll never tell if you won’t.***]
This means, of course, that we have not only been spoiled by Tim Corbin’s phenomenal success, but also have, perhaps, lost sight of what has really taken place. Consequently, some even believe Corbin’s time has passed and he needs to get out of the way and let somebody else take over.
Yeah, sure, like who exactly?
My view can only be summarized with the phrase GTFO (of here.). But being the mild-mannered reporter who is slower than a snail with arthritis that I am, I would never utter those real words other than to say IDGAF what others may think, I’m retired! The best part of growing old other than grandchildren is that you go from a sometimes IDGAF person to a 24/7 IDGAF person because you know nothing really matters in life except birth, paying your taxes, voting in the presidential election, and death — everything in-between is like gravy on homemade biscuits that your grandma used to make before she croaked. It’s all superfluous for the most part provided your grandma wasn’t a bad cook.
All of which brings us to our Poll of the Day for those still interested in the CWS despite Vandy not being there

Only 2 games a day are played in the CWS for the 6 days of first round of bracket play.
To simply things, all 4 teams are listed even though the actual games are Coastal vs. Arizona and Louisville vs. Oregon State.
Oregon St is the #8 overall seed and Coastal is #13; Louisville and Arizona were #2 regional seeds.
Oregon St RPI is #5, Coastal #3, Arizona #19, Louisville #29.

***One addition note: If life was fair (it’s not in case you haven’t figured that out yet my Gen Z and Millennial admirers — nobody cares about Gen Xers anymore, they’re old now and nobody truly cares about old people other than Asian cultures which is why they will likely prevail in the end; Americans OTOH venerate children and spoil them terribly but try to take Social Security and Medicare/caid away from the old—then Vandy would be playing tonight against the only other college baseball team that has more national titles than Vandy does this century.
Now put that in your pipe and smoke it instead of that other stuff you usually put in your pipe [I know many of the younger set use bongs now but that’s really just a big pipe isn’t it)— I’m speaking directly to you Gen Z and Millennials; deny if you will but we Boomers know you’re lying because WE INVENTED POT…as well as all the internets.
P.S. Boomers also ushered in the Age of Free Love but that’s another story for another day. You and your significant other will just have to wait on that fascinating discussion and your, perhaps, gay wedding.
Moral of the story —instead of constantly bashing Boomers you should be thanking us because, after all, we’re their only reason you are alive. However, the attention spans and reading skills of Zers and Millennials is so short none of them will even read this and if they do all they’ll say is “sure, boomer.” Hurl that so-called slur at your grandpa and see what happens, provided you’re lucky enough he’s still alive.
